Unlike the movie of the same name, what your New York Yankees have now introduced us to is "Endless Spring."
Here we are, almost at the very end of the season, still playing like it's spring training.
The Yankees now have spring training—and then they have more spring training. And more.
Yesterday, with the division at least still ostensibly on the line, we were still trying out players and lineups.
Can Michael Fulmer close? (Uh, no.)
Can Caballero play centerfield? (That would be a big negatory.)
Can Max Schuemann be a pinch-runner? (I'm sorry—what?)
Meanwhile, the real questions—Can The Martian be a major-league starter? Is Oswaldo Cabrera ready for the bigs again? Can Spencer Jones play everyday?—are never addressed.
All so we can be "prepared" to finally start playing hard in a postseason...which our GM says is just a crapshoot. ("Uh, I never actually said that...")
Crazy. The Yankees are the best team that never got out of spring training.
