One hundred forty-eight games into the season, the world still cannot figure out the enigma that is the '26 Yankees.
But but BUT... it's hard to see a championship destiny for this team.
Certainly not after yesterday.
Saturday, one batter in against the Mets, the Yankees found themselves behind. By the third inning, they were in a deep hole. By the eighth, they were on the verge of using a position player to pitch.
This is what happens when you burn your entire bullpen in the first game of a series. It's a frightening omen of what's to come.
Right now, the Yankees have a bullpen of David Bednar and the exhausted, stems-and-seeds pair of Brent Headrick and Paul Blackburn, both of whom look increasingly spent. Yesterday, it meant brining in Bradley Hanner, who has bounced around the minors since 2019, finally making his MLB debut in August. The game quickly spiraled out of control, and today, the Mets - a miserable team of wasted money and failed expectations - are today poised to win the most emotional three-game series of the year.
Every Yank fan knows the reality:
This team beats tomato cans and not much else.
Yes, we beat Boston at home, a series that hinged on a trapped fly ball - an umpiring decision that could have gone either way. But the Yankees could not hang in against Houston and San Diego. We hoped the world would change when Aaron Judge returned. Thus far, it hasn't.
Yesterday, Judge went 0-4 with a strikeout. Since returning, he is 3-14 with a walk. Everyone is quick to note that he's "still in spring training," and working back to form, and he's got nearly three whole weeks to get there.
It doesn't look like the Yankees can catch Tampa. But they should be able to stave off Boston. That means a best-of-three playoff series with the home field advantage. Today, the Yankees could clinch an appearance in the postseason - a big nothing-burger for their fan base. Soon, the entire year will boil down to a Circle of Trust that right now barely exists.

The Circle Jerk of Trust is predictably failing. I'd really like to blame Boone, but if starters don't consistently produce six or seven innings of low-scoring ball, the failure is inevitable.
So where is Clark Schmidt already? The inconsistent pitching and the amazingly inconsistent hitting do not lead to the gold ring. The defense seems better, finally, and the boneheaded plays have receded. But those aren't enough.
Question: have the accumulated years caught up to Cole?
Answer: Yes Indeed.
Sports betting is going to have a blast on Cole’s next start setting the odds on how many homers he’ll give up.
Schlittler is the one floater keeping me from flushing the entire 2026 season down the bowl.
Let’s get HIM the WIN today, OK?
News flash: people can be assholes.
Chicago White Sox amateur scouting director Mike Shirley resigned on Saturday amid an internal investigation into allegations of verbal harassment. The allegations include both racial and sexist comments made by Shirley either regarding or in front of coworkers, multiple team and league sources told The Athletic.
Let's not forget the brilliany Yankees manager brining in Hill to pitch to Soto. I called the homerun.
Cole always sucked, at least with the Yankees.
If nothing else, I wanna see Cole give up the reverse immaculate inning, which would be nine homers on nine pitches in one inning. Wouldn't that be sumthin'? Ain't nowhere else you can get that kind of entertainment.
It ain't like 40 years ago, when you could get away with attempted murder in the office. In today's game, you better be 100% pro-fes-sion-al. No sex jokes, no insensitive racial comments, no walking around the office with a hard-on.
I got a little change in my pocket
Going jing-a-ling-a-ling
Call you on the telephone baby
Give you a ring
But each time I call
Always the same old thing
Always no hugging hugging seeing
Till I get a weddin' ring
My honey, my baby
Don't put mah love upon no ship
She said "don't give me no lines and keep yer hands to yerself"
And so you deserves a pat on the old back! [pat, pat, pat, pat]
I’d like to see nine home runs on six pitches
As you're no doubt aware, I now jokingly like to refer to the New York Yankees as the "Battlin' Bronx Bastards". The joke is the irony, of course. These bastards have got ZERO fight. There ain't no "battle" anywhere in sight in da Bronks these days. When these bastards go down 2, 3, 4 runs, you know it's OVUH.
Yesterday, the Chi Sox were down 5-4 to the St. Louis Cards in the 9th inning, down to the last out, 1-2 count. You know who, fucking Randall Grichuk hits a two run homer to put the Chi Sox ahead 6-5. St. Louis goes down 1-2-3 for the count in the bottom 9th. And the Chi Sox pulled one out of the hat.
If we ever see something like that from the Battlin' Bronx Bastards ever again, probably won't be this year.
Judge has three hits since he's come back? Well, that's three more than I expected. I thought he might go the remainder of the regular season hitless. Which would have been about 80 at-bats. But he's got three hits already! So he's way ahead of schedule.
As Hoss pointed out the other day, in the comments to a 9/7/2026 thread, "Aaron Judge isn't the solution—just as he never was the problem."
Yeah, there are too many problems here for Judge to be the solution. And there are too many problems here for Judge to be the problem. That's why I thought it wouldn't make any difference even with Judge back.
It's looking like they'll make the wild card (I don't think they'll lose every game the rest of the regular season schedule), but they'll get their butts handed to 'em in the first round (or maybe the second round, if they get lucky), then they'll go a-huntin' and a-fishin'. Just like every year from 2010 on.
Why can't the Yankees get clutch players like Grichuk?
And does he play defenseman on the Blackhawks in the off-season?
If Cole had a bloody bad temper, he could do that by throwing the ball over the centerfield fence, like Dave Righetti once did after giving up a homer to blow a lead. Cole would have to give up six homers, then throw three balls over the fence. The umps would get together, then they'd pronounce that, in today's game with all these new rules, those three were "home runs".
Ta da! The magic of the Pillsbury Doughboy spokesmodel. 9 home runs on 6 pitches! You ain't seen nuthin' like that before, eh?
if a six turned out to be nine
I don't mind, oh, I don't mind
I would say he probably plays goal. You gotta be a little crazy to be a goalie.
Guys, guys! C'mon! I don't understand all the negativity here! The Yankees were playing a DAY game after a NIGHT game! And today...it has rained ALL MORNING!
You can't expect people who are making tens of millions of dollars a year to get excited under some conditions!
Sorry, "such" conditions. And they are ONEROUS!
I’ve come to the conclusion that boone is more ape than man. They say that Neanderthal genes are still present in some people’s DNA. If so, there goes your proof
Hammer - Cole won the Cy Young in 2023 as a Yankee. :)
Yeah, but I think he still sucked! Especially the Mets, Tampons. There are certain teams that own his jockstrap.
especially against those
