1. If the owners pull their lockout, there might only be a partial season.
2. If there is a partial season, it might come with a cap on payrolls.
3. If there is a payroll cap, the Yankees will find themselves way over it.
4. If the Yankees are way over the cap, they'll have to cut players.
5. If the Yankees must make cuts, they will face big holes in their lineup.
6. If the Yankees face big holes, Hal will keep Cashman.
7. If Hal keeps Cashman, Cashman will keep Boone.
8. If Cashman keeps Boone, we'll have the same basic team as 2026.
9. If we have the basic same team, nothing will have changed.
10. If nothing changes, the owners will pull their lockout...

Nothing will change whether there's a lock out or not.
If nothing changes, we’ll be right back here next year having this same conversation, just like the one we had last year
That's why I'm hoping they push it until it breaks. Unlikely—but possible! Never underestimate the ability of very rich people to completely fuck up a good thing for themselves (See: Wars, World).
(More) seriously: neither side, I think, remembers how enraged fans were by the 1994 strike. Only the rise of juiced-up ball saved the majors from a serious, extended slough (a dubious rescue, as it would turn out).
This time around? Any extended stoppage of play will lead, I fervently hope, to a real breakdown. Don't know how exactly that will play out, but I'm thinking that there MUST be clauses in all those ballpark subsidies requiring the teams in question to actually play there.
If they don't...couldn't they be appropriated, and rented out to some other entity? Say, a new players' league of some sort?
I'm with you, Hoss, for that exact outcome. In the meantime, it's Groundhog Day for Yankee fans. Now and forever or until Hal exits stage right...
Just a back cover note:
The Giants, who play just 17 games a year are just 9.5 back covers away from passing the Mets who play 162.
Mets : 78.5
Giants: 69 (at roughly the 1/4 point in the season)
The lockout will knock out free agent signings so between now and Dec 31st there is little reason to report on the Mets much less give them a back cover. The Giants should continue to own Mondays.
By comparison. Last year:
Mets: 157
Giants 85
and the year before that
Mets 141.5
Giants 63
From this data we can only conclude...
Knicks in five!
