Does anybody really think Johnny Damon won't make it his business to outhit Curtis Granderson this year?

Seriously. I wouldn't bet on Granderson's numbers beating Johnny's. Granderson may be a great player, but until we see the kind of fire in his eyes that Damon showed, he's just another rookie New Yorker.

Because no matter you've done in other markets, when you come to New York, you are a rookie.

I don't want to beat a dead horse. It's not Granderson's fault that we let an icon go. (It was the sad timing of Nick Johnson's signing that did it.)

But watch Johnny Damon's numbers in Detroit. He'll have a better year than Granderson. Because it's personal. It's always been that way with him. Just watch.
Let's hope Granderson has a similar fire. Because if he doesn't, we are screwed.

Next question: Can Marcus Thames beat Austin Jackson?

The Yankees didnt let Damon go, the prick decided to go elsewhere. All of his talk of wanting to remain in NY, blah blah blah, he is loyal to no one other than Benjamin Franklin. No harm in him being a money grubbing whore, but no chance that Cashman is to blame that a whore went for more money.

Cash offered him the best deal, and Damon turned it down, Damon will not post numbers comparable to Granderson, Damon will be hitting behind Austin Jackson, not Mark Teixeira.

Does anybody really think that Curtis Granderson won't make it his business to prove all of his doubters wrong and make people forget about Johnny Damon?

Damon will decline just as Abreu did.

-Tougher ball park to slug in for him.

-OBP down, No longer hitting between Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez

Lets not even talk about the defensive side. Next year Granderson can play CF which makes us more versatile. We can sign Werth or Crawford and have a real CF'er again.

Damons numbers will decline across the board. Bank on it.

The logic of the post is that JD is gonna do better in 2010 because he'll try really hard. That would only be possible if he hadn't beem trying real hard previously, which I don't believe. I think he's been playing as well as he could all along, so he can't raise the level of his play. Furthermore, for reasons given in the prior post, there are lots of reasons to expect a decline.

Granderson doesn't have to outhit Damon. He's a far superior defensive player.

I dont agree with this post but I cant stop thinking about how much I love the title.

Its like the Johnny Damon Mega Blockbuster 4th of July weekend movie. If Will Smith saw this post he would be scared.

Agreed with everybody's comments so far. I want to expand Anonymous' comment to add that Granderson and Damon are actually switching ballparks, which should make a significant difference.

Home/road splits last year for Damon were 17/7 HR and 136/117 OPS+. Grandy was 10/20 HR and 80/133 OPS+.

So what does that mean? Damon was a monster at hitter-friendly YS and good on the road, whereas Grandy sucked at Comerica "National" Park and was a monster on the road. Add in great defense and difference in ages, and I'll take Grandy any day of the week.

No matter what, we can count on Granderson hitting .180 against lefties.

What is the Icon BS with Damon in NY? An Icon? If we call Johnny an "Icon" then you should also mention many others players, including Ricky Henderson.

Guaranteed Gandy's numbers exceed Damon's in all categories except batting avg. (which is an overrated stat Suzyan). Isn't that amazing?

Steven is full of shit. Damon will outpace Granderson in Caught Stealing.
