Only medicals and minor details to go on Juan Soto trade talks with the Padres and Yankees. The principles are telling folks they expect the deal done fairly soon. Once done, NYY will also get Trent Grisham in deal to back up their revamped starting OF of Soto, Judge and Verdugo.
OK, just for jollies. An OF of Soto, the Martian, and Judge.
Holy fuck. I'll take that. But if King is part of the deal, I'll really miss him.

The #Yankees have also selected reliever Kervin Castro in the MiLB Rule 5 Draft, who had a 106.9 Stuff+ and 2.30 ERA in his limited sample size in Triple-A this past season. He's currently on the IL after undergoing Tommy John Surgery this past June, but is only 24 years old.

I love Soto. I am a Nationals fan (too) -- 2019 was a treat he helped provide. Have you ever looked at his BB numbers?
But. but. buttttt.......one year?
Not to worry. The Yankees also signed Dennis Santana to a minor league deal. (2023 with the Mets: 10.67 innings, 7 earned runs).
I know there is no such thing as a pitching prospect but we are giving away an awful lot of pitchers in this and the Verdugo trade and I wonder if by sheer numbers a couple of them will come back to haunt us.
And SOto being a rental worries me as obviously he instantly improves the team but I don't think enough to make us anywhere near one of the favourites for the World Series next season as there are far too many gaps in the team hitting and pitching still.

reported, sends Soto and Trent Grisham to New York for Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and Kyle Higashioka.
Joel Sherman: trade between the Yankees and Padres sending Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to New York is now completed. The teams to make it official some time tonight.
Hopefully Soto likes playing for the Yankees, they like him, and sign him to an extension. They still need YY. The players we lost might windup having career WAR numbers that will be close to a good year by Soto. Still, The Brain still has some holes to fill and you never can tell about the all important team chemistry. You can't look chemistry up on baseball-reference, but most of us have read enough baseball books by players to know that it IS VERY IMPORTANT. For now, let's enjoy the dream of Soto and Judge hitting back-to-back. And hell, who knows that Stanton stays reasonably healthy and hits the hell out of the ball. Far stranger things have happened.
