So, while managements latest " patch-up" toy for third base was in transit yesterday, the Yankees were forced to start O. Cabrera.
He went 2-4, hit a Home Run, smiled and hustled. He played a fine third base. Short term problem solved.
Today, as a reward for his fine outing, Boone will bench him.
The 34 year old replacement will do nothing, and Cabrera will be mentally ruined for the season. Though he will continue to smile on the bench.
It is the Boone way. His management style demands this action /response reflex.
Don't play the guys who are delivering on the field, pay the guys whom management dumped money upon.
It is the way you miss the playoffs.
Prove me wrong and the Yankees have a shot.

I would've played Austin Wells yesterday. The lefty-lefty stuff doesn't matter in this case. You want Wells to develop and be the #1 catcher or at least find out if he's going to be a good player? You gotta play him. Sitting on his ass on the bench ain't going to develop him.
For that matter, Stanton should be doin' just that. Sittin' on his ass on the bench. I would've brought up Spencer Jones with the big club. In fact, I would've brought up Jones last year. They can platoon the DH with Judge, Soto, Verdugo. Jones can play everyday. He's ready. He was ready last year. This is why they can't develop players.

No worries, he is still in recovery from TJ surgery so we’ll probably have to wait until next year to see him.
The good news is he pitched to a 5.00 ERA and had a sparkling 9-28 record with the Bucs.

Hammer is right: if this team had any direction, Wells would be the first-string catcher, Jones would be on the roster. And yes, Hader should've been signed; that would've strengthened the whole bullpen, all the way down the line.

What really pisses me off about the Yankee's "storyline" is that they were allegedly ready to spend $35M/yr for the un-tested pitcher whom I will not name. Failing in their "attempt" they wouldn't at least match the money that Arizona gave Monty, or Josh Hader. They could have had BOTH for roughly the same money. What is to learned? Hal never intended to bring in some pitcher from Japan because he wouldn't go for a 1 year plan for Monty which had an opt-out. Hal should have just admitted that he didn't want to spend the money and cut the bullshit. He would have been viewed as cheap, true, but at least he'd show integrity and some balls. AND NFW does Hal sign Soto next year.
Oh, while I'm ranting. Nothing like paying baseball's governing body for a subscription for MLB.com for however long it's been available only to get games clipped out for Apple, and whoever else they sold-out too. But the owner's really showed their mendacity, greed, and avarice when they started running a gambling operation on the side. Pete Rose (whose banishment I always agreed with) should get a full "pardon", and every owner should kiss his ass, literally, at this coming All-Star game.

PS, I recently went on a bit of a Vincent Price movie buying spree. When I was a teen I generally considered his movies to be a bit of a joke. No longer! Besides his brilliant tongue-in-cheek acting, the plots somehow manage to be true horror films while keeping (well, at least me) an evil grin on my face. Our discussions last year concerning "Scream and Scream Again" made me revisit his movies. I especially enjoyed one his early, serious movies, "Laura". What a BABE!
@ Kevin, Yeah, the Battleship Yamamoto thing was nothing but pure theatrics. After bringing in Soto to cure the plummeting season-ticket sales, they had absolutely no intention of spending any more money, whether on Yamamoto, Snell, Montgomery, Hader or any other big name.
I got The Vincent Price collection on blu ray, with The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit & the Pendulum, The Haunted Mansion, The Masque of the Red Death, Witchfinder General, The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Now that was money well spent! These movies look like they were shot yesterday. Price hamming it up, with little facial expressions. I have to admit that I also failed to appreciate the genius of Vincent Price until fairly recently, the last few years. But then, technology like blu ray discs and 2.35:1 widescreen weren't available for home viewing back when I was a kid. I was lucky if I had a VHS tape of a movie that I liked.
@Hammer, I wish that I'd gone your route but I already had the "Phibes" movies and "Witchfinder General" (now THAT is a rough movie to stomach, and I'm pretty jaded). I don't have the "Pit" or the "Masque", but that will remedied soon. Many happy views!
