Time for my annual, default reference to Gone Baby Gone, and the scene when Casey Affleck pistol-whips his way out of a Southie bar with Michelle Monaghan—all the while taunting a slug of a bartender named "Fat Dave," who sneeringly spoke of making them a martini. (See clip below.)
"Make me a martini, Fat Dave," he tells the mook, aiming a gun at him. "Make me a martini."
"Go ahead, Genius Brian. Go ahead, get me Scott Effross. Get me the next guy up on your great, dumpster-diving list, you fucking genius."
Grumble, rant, grouse.

It is especially tough to be a fan and know what, and sometimes who the team needs, and not be able to trust the person who will be responsible for making those trades.
The 2022 trades,as a whole, might just go down as the worst in the history of the league. His gun shy botching of 2023 only adds to our pain.
We need a closer.
We need a third baseman.
Apparently we need a defensive catcher as well.
We have nothing in the cupboard so we will probably lose several guys from our core taking shape in Somerset.
And, as just stated, we could give up guys we like to get guys who will get injured quickly or just flat out suck.
Not fun.
Never fear. Yanks just scooped up a White Sock bullpen reject! If even the White Socks don't want him, well, you finish the sentence.
I had never read Keefe to the City prior to JM providing a link the other day.
But - after last night's loss I thought that I'd mosey on over whilst sipping this joyously wonderful cup of coffee to see what his thoughts were about last night's n0n-wIn.
He relentlessly super-shreds our beloved skipper Professor Boone.
So - for those of you who are interested - here yah go:

I like Keefe, but can't read too much of his stuff due to instructions from my doctor about blood pressure. That and the overwhelming desire to perform an Aztec (Olmec?) ritual on Bonehead/Ca$hole/HAL and the training staff.
Keefe is always excellent. Nothing but legitimate observations and common sense.
Sort of like here minus the haikus, limericks, song parodies, humorous essays, Ryan Mc Broom, knock knock jokes, outstanding use of cultural and literary references, historical perspectives, and general histrionics that brings us back here time and time again.
Keefe channels our zietgeist. I am a completest reader.
James, my Fanatical Yankees Fan Friend from Hollywood, points out that the game has moved past even Cashman's old incompetence.
Back in the day, when 4 teams made the playoffs in each league, there were many more teams selling at the deadline.
Now, with 6 teams a league—or 40 percent of the teams—making the postseason, almost everybody is in contention. There are many fewer sellers—and the ones that do sell have a much greater pick of buyers, and can charge what they like.
Still, Cashman has not grasped this, once again failing to put together a good enough team in the off-season. Even the fiasco of 2022 has failed to teach him that the exact parts he needs and wants may not be available at the trade deadline.
Problem solved:
From YGY:
… Thursday morning, Brian Cashman and Co. went out and signed veteran sidearmer Tim Hill. The lefty most recently played with the White Sox this season before being designated for assignment. He appeared in 27 games and logged a 5.87 ERA and 2.22 WHIP…
Not good enough for the worst team in baseball is good enough for us.
Lost in the general histrionics (as Doug so accurately declaimed) the answer to our catching problem, Gus Ramirez has been promoted to Scranton after leading the Eastern League in HR’s, RBI’s & OPS. We probably won’t see him this year, and let’s hope crashman doesn’t trade him for a 32 y/o middle reliever.
Rest in Peace, Donald Sutherland:

Fuck, not Sutherland too
On my way to the stadium...
BTR - Glad he got the promotion. Seems like the Yankees are being more aggressive this year when it comes to that. Almost like they are starting to realize that bringing people up in their mid 20's might be a waste.
JM - Thought about going today. Was thisclose. Opted to go to a friend's instead and watch on TV and eat a ton of sushi.
AA - RIP Donald Sutherland. The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, and of course, this...

Always fun to watch. RIP.
always with the negative waves
AA, Thanx for the link! Yeah, all good points.
I caught the inning where BaBoone let Trevino hit with the bases loaded. Thought that was strange. Why not go to Austin Wells as a pinch hitter there? Then later, in a different inning, thought it was passing strange that Wells should go in as a pinch runner! So, apparently, they think that Wells is a better runner than he is a hitter, is that it?
I have been saying all year that the decision to keep playing Trevino the majority of the time seems very strange. Yes, Trevino has hit some this year. But he's not the future of the team at this position. Why would they not want to try to develop Wells? Do they think Wells sucks? But then why is he on the team?
Only in Yankee Wonderland can these strange, exotic, and weird decisions occur day in and day out!
Gil has reached his high water mark. The tide is turning.
