Yeah, just saw that. Chisholm to 2nd, DJLM kicked to the curb - it’s almost like they think the things Boone insists are right in front of them aren’t so good & (gasp!) want to do something about it?
I remember that a lot of us felt he should not have been re-signed back then. I thought we SHOULD re-sign him...because we had no one else lined up to play second. Which is always how Brian Cashman makes "decisions": by letting things drift until he has no choice.
That said, DJ had some terrific years and very clutch games for us, and I honor him for that.
DJ was a great hitter for a long time, until injuries left him a shadow of what he was. When his contract was up for renewal, he was 31 and coming off a .364/.421/.590/1.011 season. Covid-shortened season, for sure, but I would have re-signed him.
Despite being a shadow of what he was, his batting average this year (.266) is still the 4th highest on the team and his OBP is 6th (.338). While his fielding doesn't really pass the eye test these days - and he can't play 3rd - he's somehow managed a 0.4 dWAR in 45 games.
But the Yankees desperately need to upgrade themselves at 3rd base and DJ isn't up to the task. Thanks for the great seasons you gave us DJ. Sorry the last few have been so rough. Enjoy being a millionaire. Cheers.

Nah.
From Max Goodman /X:
“ The #Yankees will use a combination of Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas, possibly even J.C. Escarra, at third base moving forward, per Aaron Boone.”
From BTR999/IIHIIFIIC:
As always, the cheapest solution, and pays homage to the team’s tradition of having players play out of position
He doesn't deserve to get discarded this unceremoniously.
Then again. He shouldn't be on the team either. A good player past his prime.
And, as usual, poorly handled by the Yankees' (mis)management
Amen, Rufus. The contract was bad from the start. Too many years for a guy that age. Of course it ends like this. It was bound to.
"It's all uh, uhm, like ahhh.......right behind of him" will say Aaron Boone at some point during one of his pre and/or post game pressahs . . .
