dRUNK bLOG Begins... Five, five, five in a row, do I hear a six, six, six? Go ahead, make my day...

Last night, I watched...

All of it. The whole shebang. The entire watermelon. The full Monty Python. The complete collection...

Our hardest hit ball was courtesy of The Martian's iron glove: He clanked the ball against the left field wall, turning a catchable fly into a rally-commencing double. From there, it was all routine - walks and bloop singles, the standard-issue Yankee loss.

Every Yankee debacle defeat brings forth one such madcap moment, where the defense encounters a play that, at a major league level, simply must be made... and we blow it. They're not always listed as errors. They just kill us, that's all.

So, are we at the point where Dominguez gets benched, so Giancarlo can play left field - as we chase the wild card - screwing up both players, and maybe the Maury Caballero, too? Savannah Bananas, that's what we are.

Another Devin Williams loss. For this, we scuttled the beard ban? Guy is killing us, so what does Cashman do? He trades for two more, just like him. Savannah Bananas.

The micro-mini man we traded last winter to get Williams, Tyler Durbin - of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers - is hitting .295 over last 30 days. He's up to .262 on the year. (Jazz holding at .243.) Shoot me.

Worst part of this collapse? It coincides with Boston rising. Redsocks waited, built a farm system, kept their prospects, and now they're rolling us over like a banana truck in the hills outside of Utica. My God, this is a dreadful year, and mark my words: The worst is still to come. I need a booster. Calgon Bath Oil Beads, drink me away.

I guess we can quibble about the details, but the bottom line is, we are blind and our dog is dead.

And no one is coming to save us.

AboveAverage said...

Well…..

We all know that Williams won’t be saving us.

Or anybody else, for that matter.

So put down the phone and run.

R U N !

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuunnnnnnnn !

Oh . . .

I think that E.D. isn’t really drinking alcohol.

He’s binging on soft serve swirl.

Down the street, in a cup or a (DAVID) cone at his neighborhood Carvel.

Enjoy the binge- leader E.D.

Put a cherry on top from me

In full disclosure, I didn’t even watch last night’s game. No sir, not one pitch. That’s how bad things are. I knew Judge's return would be meaningless. He stopped hitting for a month before his injury, and has of struggling when he returns from injury.

Not sure what else to say about boone. He was a bad hire to begin with, and extending him during the winter was nothing short of corporate malfeasance.

Bottom line: To start the season, the Yankees played 55 games of .636 baseball. Since then, we played 59 games of .424 baseball. So now here we are, sinking like a stone with a a provenly incompetent manager, so bad it seems he’s trying to lose.

The only question remaining: How low can we go?

Don't despair.

Two quick things...

1) Jasson

What is truly unfortunate is that he is very short and I'm sure there were short outfielders who could make the plays he's missing but he's not the there yet

He got to the ball but having to leap screwed him up. Same thing with not pulling the HR ball back the other day. He Juuuuust missed it. If he were taller he would have caught it. Way more "wall" based plays in LF than CF.

2) Why Boone is toast. For real.

Hal doesn't like to be bothered with hearing about the Yankees other than in a board meeting or getting the spreadsheet. That's why he has Cashman. To handle all the messy details.

He's hearing about it now. Every day. It's annoying him.

Boone is toast.

He'll be gone before the 12th of....er....or......NEVER

As I said last nigtht, "Wilson Betemit? He never ever get a hit."

Maybe he's still available.

Ranger, I'd prefer Moon Boone Night.

TheWinWarblist said...

Moon Everybody Night!! That'd be the ticket!!

That would make sense. If they want to be dramatic they could take a page out of Georges book.

Picture this... It's Old Timers Day and they announce... He was the catcher for the Championship Dynasty Teams of 1996-1999. The manager of 2009 World Series Champions and the NEW MANAGER of the NY YANKEES, won't you please welcome... Joe Girardi!!!!!! And the crowd goes bat shit.

I LOVE IT!

HoraceClarke66 said...

Bitty, I love "Yankgst"! That's it indeed!

HoraceClarke66 said...

Excellent point, Doug: Dominguez should be in centerfield, for cryin' out loud! He's fast but not tall. Then put Spencer Jones, who IS tall in left. Problem solved. Also, release Goldschmidt with our blessings, and bring up Rumfield, for cryin' out loud. Put Ben Rice behind the plate until further notice. Send Wells down to Scranton, and tell him he can come up again when he learns to keep track of outs in an inning.

BTR999 said...

If (when) we lose tonight, Texas will jump over us into the final WC slot.

HoraceClarke66 said...

To JM's point, hey, I give Stanton his props on his clutch hitting, and his terrific streaks. And yes, we desperately need his bat. But you put him in the outfield, I guarantee that he's back on the DL in two weeks. You leave him at DH...and he's back on the DL in two weeks.

JM said...

Damned if he do, damned if he don't.

JM said...

Yes. All good ideas that won't happen, but they're still good.

Amazing post from the Estimable Keefe, who sounds like he's on that drinking binge with you, Duque:

Unfortunately, Carlos Rodon, who is as soft as Williams gets the ball in the series finale on Wednesday. Anyone who tells you they like Rodon, trust him, think he’s good or believe he will go out and lead the Yankees to a win on Wednesday is either a Yankees homer, full of shit, soft themself or all three. Sure, Rodon could go out and pitch well and the Yankees could end their five-game losing streak and avoid falling out of a playoff spot for the first time all season, but no one can feel confident in thinking he will. Because even if Rodon pitches well, the offense is likely to no-show. And if the offense does show, Rodon likely won’t pitch well. And if the offense does show and Rodon does pitch well, someone will make a baserunning or defensive mistake you have never seen before. And if the offense does show and Rodon is great and the Yankees play a clean game in the field and on the bases, the bullpen will blow it. And if the offense does show, Rodon is stellar, the Yankees play a clean game in the field and on the bases and the bullpen is unhittable, the Yankees just may win. And if all of those things happen it will be their first clean game and their first win since the trade deadline and in August. And if all of those things happen, the Yankees will leave Texas still in a playoff spot.

Also:

When the going gets tough, the Boone Yankees get going. They always have, outside of a select few.

One of those few is Giancarlo Stanton who was held to one plate appearance on Tuesday because Aaron Judge returned and Judge can only DH, and because the Yankees are worried about Stanton’s health with 48 games left and a playoff berth hanging in the balance, Stanton is going to be held to one plate appearance a lot moving forward.

The second half of that is great. I did laugh out loud. It's also reminds me of one of my favorite lines in "The Thin Man," delivered by the girlfriend of a nervous, low-level crook.

Marion: I don't like crooks. And if I did like 'em, I wouldn't like crooks that are stool pigeons. And if I did like crooks that are stool pigeons, I still wouldn't like you.

JM - Don't know about as manager but Posada would be a hell of a bench coach. There's a guy who knows how to be productively angry!
