After 47 years, Boeheim is done

If you ever lived in Syracuse, NY - and God help you with that - you knew Jim Boeheim.

You knew he was the Syracuse University men's basketball coach. You knew he could whine like a banshee. You knew he always looked uncomfortable, even when happy. You knew he was the biggest poohbah at SU, which made him the biggest poohbah in all of Central New York.

And, until yesterday, you knew he'd coach at SU until death.

Well, I guess not...

After 47 years, SU showered his path with roses as it pushed him out the door.

Once, long ago, I met Boeheim. I wrote a newspaper story about he being the highest paid person at SU, based on tax filings. He didn't like the story, though he gave an interview and admitted he was a millionaire. He never whined, and I felt cheated.

I've seen a lot of crazy things in Syracuse. I once saw protesters scream at Dan Quayle from spitting distance. I once saw a State Fair butter sculpture of Darryl Strawberry. I once saw an SU student ask Kurt Vonnegut if he was going to write another novel after "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater," to which the author replied, "I certainly wouldn't tell you, because I've already written several." I once saw Hillary Clinton eat a giant hot sausage with onions and peppers. And I once saw Boeheim march down the main street, wearing a Mardi Gras hat after winning the national championship.

Boeheim long ago became part of Syracuse life. And I never expected to see him pushed out. And you know what? He deserved better.

[Brendan Kuty] Carlos Rodon has a left forearm strain, no throw for 7-10 days. Will start the season on the IL. Per Brian Cashman.

[Bryan Hoch] Tommy Kahnle and Lou Trivino will also begin the season on the IL, Brian Cashman said.

Ah yes, baseball is back.

In some 20 years from now when the Yankees finally let Ca$hman go, he and Boeheim will have led their teams to the same amount of championships in 40+ years; 1!

Duque -

He also got to coach his son in some big games. That's pretty cool.

Injuries -

Moved this from the other thread

Wow! You know, just wow.

So three fifths of the "best rotation in baseball" is already on the shelf and Setback Sevi is one of the two remaining.

No one in the wings.

Sears and Montgomery gone. Both the pitchers and the retail stores by the way. If we had a pitcher named John Wanamaker he'd be gone too.

and Trevino too! He was the only saving grace from the Montas trade now it is a catrgory five shitstorm,

Unreal.

At this rate, the Montefiore Yankee Injury report is going to read as long as War and Peace...

Schmidt who was next in line to step into the rotation, got roughed up by the Sox today.

Weren’t we told he had a magic pitch? He sure made it disappear.

Tyler Danish should not be allowed near any pitching mound...anywhere...on earth...

BTR999 said...

Danish ERA now 94.50. Did not think that was possible, LOL.

Seriously, stop embarrassing the young man and send him to the minor league camp. I know our pitchers are dropping like flies, but still…

So this Rondon signing will mean there will be no more F/A signings for the next 6 years because this guy will be tying up a roster spot (not pitching) for that time period.

Nice little rally in the 9th…

Bader hurt as well.

Yeah, Bader hurt. Who could possibly have seen that coming? The guy who missed 305 games over the past 5 seasons. Hmm.

I think this is a record for a season falling apart. Second week in March!

Been saying that about Bader since he got here.
