Optimism

 Today, I watched Aaron Hicks:

1. Give up on a fly ball to the corner of left field, only to see it drop fair for a double.

2.  Strike out.

3.  Get picked off of first base.

Mid-season, post-3rd-stint on the IR form.

Don't forget Jonny. Pitching against a beer league lineup from Haifa that couldn't do a thing against the indy leaguers who preceded him, "the best arm in the Yankees bullpen" gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a HBP. K'd no one, botched a potential inning ending and damage limiting double play with a poor flip to the catcher. Took the L, of course.

It's going to be a long year.

One inning of work, to be clear.

What are you saying, Alphonso?

Why all the complaints about Hicks???
He's ahead of most of the players.
He's already in mid-season form!

Keep in mind, this is Hicks playing for the position. Think what he does once it's handed to him--for no reason except the size of his contract.

But, But, Hicksie is in the best mental shape of his career after enduring the the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune last season!!!

So, Donaldson claims that if he thought he was closed to being finished as a player and couldn't revert to the hitting form he had several years ago, he would have retired this off-season. Sure. What bullshit. There is no way on Earth that he would forgo $ 29 million (25 salary plus 4 buyout)to save face. Josh, no one believes you.
I'm sure his motivation is more like Ken Holtzman's 35 years ago. In 1978, after not pitching in the 1977 post-season for the Yankees and Martin almost never using him in that current one, a reporter asked Ken what he thought about being passed over for Jim Beattie and having no role on the pitching staff. His reply was " I have no control over that. Just pay me every-other-Friday."

And there it is, Carl.
