By tonight, the Yankees' lead in the AL East might be gone. Ten takeaways of existential dread.

 1. Eventually, he'll pull out of it. But right now, I dread seeing Aaron Boone come up with the bases loaded.

2. Eventually, I think he'll pull out of it. But right now, I dread seeing Giancarlo Stanton come up with runners on base.

3. One of these days, I hope he'll pull out of it. But right now, I dread seeing DJ LeMahieu come up.

4. Every time a Yankee batter is called upon to advance a runner, I dread what will happen.

5. Today, Marcus Stroman will start. I dread seeing him.

6. Next weekend, we face the Mets. They are mired in a slump, as Boston was two weeks ago. I dread what's coming.

7. In 30 days, the front office will blow up this team with trades. I dread what's coming.

8. The country is on the verge of cutting health care for millions of people. I dread what's coming.

9. Whenever I see Aaron Boone, I fill with dread.

10. Everything, everywhere, everybody... I dread what's coming.

Blowing up this team might not be such a bad idea.

Blowing up this country might work, too. At least it's faster than what's happening.

Judge is reduced to warning track power. Stroman belongs in a retirement home. DJ, also. Boone belongs wherever we put idiots these days. Cashman is obsessed with the wrong stats. Winning is the only one that matters.

We're doomed. Tampa will be in first during the All Star break. No doubt about it.

Me too….

I dread seeing Aaron Boone come up with the bases loaded…..

Personally, I’d prefer to see Don Zimmer’s Rage Zombie up with the bases loaded and, as a matter of fact, I may have to ask Danny Boyle to direct that sequence to include on the upcoming Criterion special edition 4K release of 27 Up - 27 Down - 28 Years Later.. .

And I woke up to the news Dave Parker died. Along with Clemente one of my two all-time favorite baseball players.

The only silver lining with #8, the delicious bit of ironic justice served, is that the very voters who allowed this monstrosity to reappear because their eggs went up a dollar a dozen are the ones disproportionately affected and will now either pay thousands out of pocket or simply die. Obviously, little consolation for the others, but....

I painted Halloween windows on downtown shops on the Green for Halloween as a grade schooler, Carl. That's how long I've been gone.

Carofano Opticians was the last store window that I painted - and from what I understand, Ray is still there......

You've been gone a good 30 years, right? Many cosmetic changes during that time. However, I'm sure you've made a few visits back to see some of the changes.

Carl J. Weitz, I share your schadenfreude. BUT...the "big thing," I think, that old-school liberalism grasped, was that society DOES exist. That what affects some people can easily affect us all. Those measles and other outbreaks coming down the road won't be restricted to the MAGA hordes, more's the pity. Same with what happens when they managed to collapse the economy, destroy the status of the dollar as the currency of last resort, and obliterate our status as the country that the smartest, most talented, hardest working, and most aspiring people around the world, most want to come to.

I don't mean to lecture. I know you know this. I just write it out because I remain in shock that we are doing this to ourselves. It is the greatest act of national suicide in world history.

But that's America: we never do anything halfway.

It's the end of the world as we know it and I (don't) feel fine
