Ten not-much-fun true facts about the hopeless 2026 Yankees

Spring is done.
It was fun.
Get the gun.
We're on the run.

So, here we are. Another summer of hell.  Utah is on fire. We're at war. Temps are in the 90s. And those black things bouncing along the road? They're the wheels of the Yankee bus.

Ten not-so-fun facts about the June Boone swoon.

1. The Yankees' record is 48-36, exactly as it was last year on this date.

2. In the recent Boston massacre, Ben Rice grounded out to 2B nine straight times. He is in an 0-18 slump.

3.
They are the first Yankee team in history to score three or fewer runs hits in four straight games.

4. Over their last five, t
hey allowed 14 unearned runs -most in such a span since July of 1990, a team that finished 7th under Bucky Dent and Stump Merrill. (Mel Hall, Jesse Barfield, Alvaro Espinosa...)

5. Over their last four games, the Yankees are 12 for 123 - batting a crisp .098.

6. In that stretch, they are the first team in AL history to hit below .100 and strike out more than 35 times. (They had 38.)

7. They still have a six-game lead in the Wild Card.

8. Next week, they play four in Tampa.

9. It's understood that Cooperstown Cashman will trash the farm system - as he did last year - to chase the Wild Card.

10. Without Aaron Judge, they are below .500 - 12-13 - a certified tomato can.

Bonus fact: Judge is a month away.

Do we bunt anymore or try to manufacture runs the old fashioned way? Wait, don't answer that question...

No clue why but felt a moral obligation to share.

Don’t ask why.

I have this vague memory from not very long ago...guys were bunting, and stealing bases, and moving runners along...I think McMahon or Caballero was playing third a lot, Bellinger was in the outfield every day, the Martian played often, in right...we were winning games, even without Judge.

So what the fuck happened? Boone happened. The defense turned to shit, infielders were in the outfield and not good at it, infielders in the infield weren't so good...

Everybody went ice cold, stopped having confidence in themselves and in the team, and generally had their heads fucked up.

Boone.

That's all too true, ranger. Though I don't know if this year they are even capable of getting hot for the playoffs. Every one of the things we have been complaining about for years is now, finally, being exposed.

The real game (for Hal & Pal): attendance last night was barely over 40,000, the lowest it's been since the White Sox series. If this keeps up, Hal's profit margin might drop by .01, even .02 percent. That cannot happen. He will be forced to line the entire Yankee Stadium wall with dangerous video ads.

Is that the number of people in the seats or the number of seats sold? Those high end corporate seats are never full.

The Yankee are estiated to make 5 million per game in ticket sales and another 10-12% on rat dogs, piss warm beer, parking, and merchandise. These are only estimates because their financial figures (As well as all other MLB teams) are not required to disclose all revenue streams. This unsubstantiated estimate is roughly 50% of revenue. There must be considerably more income or the rules wouldn't allow them to hide it . I figure that 50% is no more than 1/3 of total revenue.

The good news for the trade deadline of 2026, is that there isn't much left in the farm system for Cashman to trash. Everyone will want one guy, who is currently on the injured list ( Lombard). Absent that, we have who exactly? We already traded every catcher in the system. We have no outfielders or they would be here now. And is Elmer that big of a draw ? If he were good, he would be in the bullpen. We've got one guy. And Cashman never trades the current star, He has to trade Aaron Judge.

They do have Ben Hess at AA, who many feel will be another Schlittler-like pitcher. A big guy at 6' 5" with a high-octane fastball plus great secondary pitches. Elmer Fudd is considered by many scouts as having the best " pure arm" in the Yankee system. Carlos Lagrange has an elite fastball and should be their next closer for years. Finally, Dax Kilby could be the best position player in the system other than Lombard, Jr. Scouts say he has elite hitting skills, but needs to shore up his defense. He's a SS, but his arm is weak due to shoulder injruries, so a move to second is likely.
So they do have some very good talent in the minors, as well as some good mid-range prospects. My hope is that Cashman isn't stupid enogh to trade any of their high prospects for a rental or players past their prime. But, we all know that Cashman is a huge fuck-up.
