El Pavo Returns
Tonight Miguel Cairo, ex-Yankee fave and known Red, will return to Yankee Stadium, see that it's gone and, with luck, be directed to the copy down the street.
The Bronx Bombers, you'll remember, boast a .615 winning percentage in games El Pavo played in pinstripes (source).
I will bet you a hundred dollars that Suzyn collars Miggy for her pre-game interview tonight.

WE NEED A CAIRO
REDS EAT YANKS' LUNCH, SPIT LUNCH UP ALL OVER CASHMAN'S $$$ SUIT
While the Yankees dithered the Winter Meetings away, the razor-sharp Cincinati Reds signed top utility man and Yankee-for-life Miguel Cairo to a 2-year deal worth a cool $2,000,000.00. In games Cairo played in pinstripes, the Yankees' win percentage was a whopping .615 (source). Every true student of the Yankee legacy can recite that stat in his sleep--except for the highly paid bean counter Brian Cashman, who couldn't care less about pinstripe power and pride.

More Wins: Here's How
Going into today's game, the New York Yankees' win percentage is .528. Which is all right, considering. But would you like it to be better? Consider two air-tight, open-and-shut empirical facts:

FRIDAY! FRIDAY!
Ms fan Buhner's Ghost and I will beerily liveblog Friday's Wang-Bedard duel from Ozzie's Restaurant & Lounge in Seattle. We already know the story of the game: El Pavo's return to The Stadium. PLUS: If things go as planned (do they EVER?) I'll be fresh from a matinee of Iron Man, so look for some tantalizing hints. I'm announcing this now so that I can't back out.

"I LOVE TURKEY! WHAT A COUNTRY! I LOVE TURKEY! I LOVE TURKEY!"
A Seattle radio interviewer yesterday asked former Yankee Miguel Cairo what he'd eat for dinner if he could have anything -- great question -- and his enthusiastic answer is our headline. As I understand it, by 'turkey' Miggy meant the poultry, not the country, and by 'country' he meant America, not Turkey.
UPDATE!! Audio here (thanks, Buhner's Ghost)!!! The turkey part's about three-quarters of the way in. What Miggy really said:
I love turkey. It's something, this is -- I LOVE turkey. What a country. I will say, what a country. I love Thanksgiving. I love country. I love turkey. I love turkey. I like to eat turkey.Okay, so I get things wrong. Like you never do.
FACT! In games Miggy played, the Bombers were 158-99 (.615)!
