Apparently, the New York Daily News sees fit to compose stealth back covers that barely see the light of day before they flicker and vanish, never to appear in their website archive. One such cover, which I found in the mildewy back alleys of their Facebook page and is dated July 1, celebrates Chase Headley's Ruthian walk-off on a Texas passed ball. Which renders my countdown of consecutive Yankeeless back covers a mockery.
Like my accountability mentor Tony Blair, I would like to apologize while stressing that I did everything right.

Rather than the Daily News, I use Charmin.
May I propose a new countdown clock to fill the void?
Brian Cashman's and Joe Girardi's contracts both end at the end of the 2017 season.
While the exact date may shift (e.g., in the highly unlikely event that the 2017 Yankees make it all the way through the post-season), those are some X's on the calendar that might be mighty satisfying to mark off.
Thanks for the idea, LBJ. Both Cash & Joe's previous contracts expired on Oct. 31 of their respective years, so let's go with that.
I'm looking for a countdown clock that's a good fit. Might take some time.
