When discussing sports, I think some idiot has to make a stand now and again and say what's on his mind. This is necessary so that others can claw his face off with alternative viewpoints.
I am just such an idiot.
While we still might want to trade to upgrade the starting rotation, here's the ideal 2017 Yankee lineup in my mind. Please have at it in the comments section:
- Pitcher - Tanaka, Sabathia, Warren, Mitchell, [Winner of Spring Training Pitch-off]
- Catcher - Sanchez
- 1B - Bird
- 2B - Castro ... for now, but let's make sure he knows we have hungry prospects behind him
- SS - Gregorius ... love this guy
- 3B - Any prospect who wants to step up and take it ... i.e., trade Headley, get what you can, and eat salary
- RF - Judge ... until he starts striking out ... give him until Memorial Day.
- CF - Any prospect who wants to step up and take it ... i.e., trade Ellsbury, get what you can, and eat salary
- LF - Gardner ... rested now and again by anyone off the bench
- DH - Carter / Holliday
I'd watch that team.
Thoughts? Alternative viewpoints? Claws?

I cannot find the least bit of weakness in your observations. But you'll never get a job working for the Yankees.
I second that, sounds like the best possible scenario for this year!
That's the problem with you amateurs. You are totally ignorant of political reality
I'd give Judge until July 5, so Scranton doesn't run out of hamburgers, trying to feed him.
And come on, folks: They will never deal Headley. The guy will give the keynote at my funeral.
I will not claw your face off because I agree with your suggestion. Still, the starting rotation looks unrealistic in leaving Pineda out. Right or wrong, Big Mike is going to get his starts until he consistently sucks. So far, he hasn't been doing a good job of it, and he inconsistently sucks.
I will venture to pick one teeny-tiny bone with you, LBJ: maybe a hamate bone, or better yet, a trapezium bone (I have so damned much trouble with those, anyway):
I don't have a good feeling about Adam Warren as a starter (yeah, I know, he had that one good year, but I just have baaad memories of too many pelotas sailing over the fence, with him turning and watching); I'd put him in long relief, and give one of the other younger guys a chance (perhaps with a short hook)....
What a great vision, with Joey Blue-Binders going out to the mound to give the hook, and wearing a toga!! That's a great one, Duque!) LB (No J)
I'm not clear on your suggestions on Headley and Ellsbury. Did you say "eat their contracts" or "take them to places where there are cannibals and leave them there" ....?
I'm OK either way.

An excellent question. Sorry I wasn't clear:
Headley: Consider the remainder of his contract to be a sunk cost (i.e., eat it).
Ellsbury: Island with cannibals.
If you're gonna feel queezy about a starter, consider the Sabathia question.
Agree with your assessment. One question – are we going to break up Gardner and Elsberryt finally? We can't count on these two non-speedsters to non get on base and not advance and non-clog up the top of the order every game.
