For the most part the money has been spent and the rosters are set. The Mets are paying, after the competitive balance tax, almost $500M next year. There is no doubt that they will make the playoffs. As will we. But it begs the question... Are the Mets better than the Yankees?
Let's take a look at the position players using last year's stats and this year's salary.

Quintana v. Severino Sevi's gotta stay healthy which has never happened. But when he's healthy he's an ace as well. Uh, TIE?
Carrasco v. Montas Technically it should be Montas but he has shown nothing. Particularly away from Oakland. METS

Too bad Matsui is no longer on the Yankees. Because then they would have Godzilla AND Rodan!
That's a pretty good side-by-side comparison, Doug. One thing you might consider adding to each player's numbers would be his age (e.g., right after salary). This would give us a dim sense of things how vulnerable the player is to injuries as well as how long the Mets' or Yankees' superiority at the position might endure.
But, then again, Boone is younger than Showalter so perhaps never mind.
Eh, Showalter is not exactly a great manager either. His teams always get better after he leaves
On the contrary:
Showalter builds those teams and then promptly gets fired.
