In this millennium, Boston has tanked five times, finishing last in the AL East and retooling its roster. In doing so, the Redsocks have won four world championships.
They tanked last year, and now, after a brief and sickly wild card run, they're doing it again.
I suppose we should always savor a win over Houston, especially considering the rarity of them. But victories in September get us nowhere. That's the reality of being a tomato can.
The Yankees need a systemic overhaul - the kind of organizational restructuring that cannot be done by the same people who got us here.
The Yankees want the YES September narrative to be "Look at the Martian and the Baby Bombers!"
That must not happen.
The story in New York needs to be an overwhelming, unforgiving anger at the Yankee ownership and front office. Year after year, the owner spends just enough money to compete - and then pulls out his pockets and poormouths. Year after year, the Yankee front office acquires players with the assumption that, simply by donning pinstripes, they will improve their game.
This isn't about a few trades that went bad and, "Aw, shucks, that's baseball." This is about a top-down hubris that faces no accounting from the media, which it predominately owns. The experts on YES commonly challenge the play of Yankee batters and pitchers. They never, ever, criticize the owner or GM.
Yeah, nice win last night. Hooray for Jasson Dominguez. Great moment, yatta yatta. We gained in the wild card race: We're now only 10 games out. So... now, what?
Final note: How sad was it that The Master couldn't be there to call The Martian's first HR. Let's hope Dominguez gives him a few chances in NYC.
Final final note: Once again, even without an October, the Yankees seem fated to win the Tabloid Back Page Race. How sad and mediocre is NYC sports?

New York sports is abysmal. But howzabout that Martian kid?
I mean, we have to grasp at any straw that comes our way.
Look - I’m with you here.
100 and 10 percent.
No argument from me.
So . . . Just so we’re clear:

There - I said it again.
That’s because it’s true and I believe it.
Garbage in = Garbage out.
Especially when Garbage is calling all the shots, making all the moves and pulling all the strings.
However, there is something that’s bothering me a little bit so I felt I should just get it off my chest.
I believe that tomato cans are being unjustly vilified here.
I happen to love tomato cans because I’m a huge fan of . . . canned tomatoes.
They’re so tasty and versatile. I adore all of the many styles and variations that are available for purchase on our grocer’s shelves and, I often find myself cooking with them as much as two to three times a week!
So, as a true fan of these satisfyingly sweet and savory rounded red orbs of deliciousness, I implore everyone to consider finding another canned fruit or vegetable to describe/represent these cellar dwelling, bottom-feeding, soul-sucking, heart breaking losers!
THERE HAS GOT TO BE A SATISFYING ALTERNATIVE CHOICE!
Thank you all for listening.
AA - Maybe this doesn't replace tomato cans but this year's Yankees are like Pop Rocks.
Crappy, expensive, tiny candy whose entire merit is in their oddly uncomfortable, flavorless "explosions" on the way to non-existence,leaving nothing but a gross feeling in your mouth and a vague sense that you should not have participated.
One more thing...
It is extremely telling about how little we (Yankee Fans) regard Stanton and how reluctant the Yankees are to promote him, that he is one home run away from 400 HRs and it is a footnote.
Preach, Duque, preach!
If Boston played the Yanks 162 games this year, they wouldn't have tanked. They'd be playing .900 baseball.
So now what? Now, we just have to be patient whilst these kids develop. And hope that they're given the chance to develop up here in the majors.
Unfortunately, getting rid of Brain Cashman is a pipe dream. As long as the finances are good, HAL won't get rid of Cashman. And Cashman's true talent sure seems to be finances. The guy should've been the Chief Executive Officer of Sears. He picked the wrong industry. But hell, what do I know? He's made a bundle for himself and is filthy rich.
At least they did bring in Sean Casey before they brought up these kids. I wouldn't want these kids being indoctrinated with Dillon Lawson's approach.
What will be the Master's home run call for The Martian? Something with El Marciano, no doubt.
@Hammer...or is it El Kabong...
I fear it will be something out of this world.
How about "Mars attacks!"
