The Starr Insurance Warriors have 25 games remaining in this season from Hell. If they win, say, 15 straight, holy crap! they could vault right back into that final Wild Card berth sweepstakes. Greatest finish in history?
And if The Martian (note the capital "T," which for future reference, should appear in the AP Rule Book) belts two HRs in every three games, he'll finish the season with 16. Yumpin yiminy! Rookie of the Year?
Yeah, and I'm Taylor Fucking Swift. If you can figure out the following chart, you're a 5-fool fan. Right now, we're merely tailgating Boston, as the frat boys descend into September, still awaiting Chris Sale's revival. (Note: He just pitched 5 innings of two-hit ball! Against the Royals, no less!)
Look: We all want The Martian to be the next big thing. We could use another Mickey. But if his once-around-the-league phase results in a celebration of the status quo this winter, it could be the worst thing that happens. Hal Steinbrenner has vowed to do a "deep dive" into the 2023 disaster. He doesn't need a spreadsheet. All he needs is a mirror.

Good Morning…it has been my contention all along, that come what may, both Boone & Cashman will return in ‘24.
Boone and Cashman will be the third party candidates in 2024. They will not win.
I saw former Yankee reliever Jeff Nelson interviewed on tv yesterday. He said he'd been hoping that they'd bring these kids up earlier.
Now, he didn't say how much earlier. It's been my contention from the get-go that these kids should've been here from day 1 of the season. Particularly The Martian (yes, I agree with Duque that the "T" in "The" should always be capitalized, and I hear there will be an entire chapter devoted to this in the next edition of The University of Chicago Manual of Style). And Peraza should've been here from the get-go too.
But who knows? Maybe Brainless did the right thing by not having these guys on the team when Dillon Lawson was here. I prefer not to think about the Transylvanian horrors of Dillon Lawson. It's much too gory. And it's not yet All Hallow's Eve.
From day 1 of the season, the only way that the 2023 Yankees could win a Championship was to bring up guys like The Martian, have him learning on the job up here, and hope that he developed by July or August.
Staying with guys like Donaldson, the left field platoon of other teams' castoffs, the right field platoon of other teams' castoffs, the third base platoon, the second base platoon, the first base platoon, the centerfield platoon, these were all terrible mistakes.
Cashman does not deserve any credit for bringing these kids up now or for firing Dillon Lawson halfway through the season. These were things that any GM who wanted to win would have, could have, should have done during the winter and years before. How long have we suffered with Transylvanian vampire Dillon Lawson as hitting coach? How long have we suffered with all these 29 year old rejects and dumpster dives playing all over the field?
The right thing for HAL to do, if he wants to win, is to FIRE Cashman as soon as the season is over.
Did ya'll hear the Justin Shakil call on The Martian's home run? Something like "El Marciano! Mars attacks, right here in Space City!" Pretty good; didn't rhyme but I liked it!
