I’m just hearing about this. We always poked gentle fun at John’s mistakes, but he was a joy to listen to, even at the end.

He was corny, but the best kind of corny, and never took himself too seriously . I loved when he talked to himself, asking and then answering his own question. His interplay with Suzyn always sparkled because it was two good friends just watching a game.

I’m truly bummed and await one of you eloquent fellows to write a proper tribute.

Let’s start beating the drum for his election into the Hall, while he’s around to enjoy it. Can you imagine THAT speech?

That was beautiful. Such beauty and majesty will never return in our lives. We were very lucky to have had both The Scooter and then The Master.
