The Yankee batting order for April 1, 2025

Jasson Dominguez* CF
Aaron Judge RF
Jazz Chisolm 3B
Giancarlo Stanton DH
Austin Wells C
DJ LeMahieu** 1B
Anthony Volpe SS
Some New Guy*** LF
Caleb Durbin**** 2B

* The Yankees will be crazy desperate to market The Martian as the next Juan Soto, who might be a Met. There is no better batting slot in MLB than hitting in front of Aaron Judge. However Dominguez looks in Tampa, they will assure us that he has learned to catch pop flies.

** At 36, DJ will win Olympian spring training competition over Oswaldo, TJ Rumfield and Dollar General journeymen (Jake Bauers, Ji-Man Choi, et al), and be touted as Comeback of 2025.

*** Whomever this is, he was really good in 2022. Looking to rebound from last year. Team-friendly contract, too! Nobody's even heard of the prospects we dealt. Cashman wins again!

**** Durbin is greatest base-stealer in Arizona Instructional League history. Try to contain your ecstasy.

Postscript: As hard as it is - (trying to feign hope) - at least the Yankees have a ballpark in Tampa. Tropicana Field, which was shredded by Hurricane Milton, won't be ready for the regular season, and the city of Tampa is balking at repair costs, since they're planning to replace the facility anyway. The most logical location: George M. Steinbrenner Field. The Yankees should trade the park for a 1B.

Unfortunately......never mind.

I can't decide if I should quit this bloated and diseased franchise just for losing Soto or for losing Soto and failing to replace him with three exciting alternatives.

I’ve got a few Yankees jerseys for sale. Know anyone who is in the market?

(the above comment is only partially true - please plan accordingly)

My predictions:
1. Boone and Cashman will have their jobs for as long as they want them. Cashman will be with us for decades.
2. Hal will choke on the asking price for Soto and tell Cashman to go dumpster diving.
3. The bullpen will be filled with castoffs and never-wases
4. Yankee defense will be a tragedy of errors, since the Yankees don't teach fielding to the many minor leaguers who will be staffing the roster next year.
5. 2 or 3 regular players will bat .200 or lower
6. Half the roster will spend time on the IL. Some will never return
7. Whoever follows Judge in the lineup will give him no protection
8. Cashman will tell us we're going to the WS
9. Boone will tell us this is the best ball club the Yankees have fielded in decades. And he thinks - insert name of a nobody - will fill the gap of Soto's absence.
10. Yankees will completely melt down in September and finish 4th.

We have met the enemy and he is us.
