The old man would never have let it go this far. Then again, salaries have exploded since he passed. It really is out of control. We may not have baseball at all next season. Anyway, it’ll be kids and scrap heap pickups for us. A key injury here or there and this could be a last place team. I shit you not.

There are lots of solutions to the pitching shortage at the beginning of the season. Buying an old, once-great pitcher to soak up a few innings in april/may is a tried and not-so-true solution. These two are probably not the path that Cashman will take, unless he finds them in a dumpster.
No, Brian will probably continue scouring the DFA hot sheets or bring up some other aging pitcher from what used to be their farm system. There a plethora of dubious choices on the RailRider Home for Aging Ballplayers.
And nobody does dubious like Brian and Hal.

On SportsNite they were talking about Chris Bassitt—which seems like a good idea, for a half-season.
If Pal won't even dumpster dive anymore—bad dog!—they oughta throw the kids. Young pitchers often do very well (at least against us) until the league catches up to them. Have them put in a surprising half-year, then back to the minors.
Pal can take credit for inventing the "Push Refresh" pitching staff idea.
I called him "Crackhead Cash" for a reason - and still do. He's hoarding his little chips like a crackhead might hold onto something he can pawn later on, when he needs a fix. In this case - and almost every case - it's the guys down on the farm (How you going to keep them down on the farm after they've been Yankeeeee?) the guys on the farm. They're all he's got, now that Daddy Hal has shut off the cash spigot. He'll play them enough to showcase them and hope they don't crap out, then hell turn them - like the alchemist that Brian is - from you prospects into washed-up has-been retreads. It's fucking magic, I tell you!
All Hal wants is nenaros in his pocket and to pay off his partners. Any good businessman would realize that spending more could bring better results. Perhaps, a championship. This would result in more season ticket sold, as well as t-shirts, jerseys. Not Hal. One big signing and bringback the same group that could not get past Toronto. Atta boy, Hal.
