How? One answer is Nasty Nestor Cortes. He is now 5-10 with an ERA of 4.42. That's not nasty. That's nice. He's Nice Nestor. He's awfully nice.
Last year, his ERA was 4.97. He's been Nice Nestor for two seasons now. He's becoming Naughty Nestor.
Frankly, we have no starter who is a sure thing, and some - Nestor and Stroman - are crapping the beds.
This is trouble.

Cortes said he had trouble gripping the wet ball and babbled something like “it was hard to get into my glove, and they’re calling for another pitch in 15 seconds.” Oh.
When the halos took a 2-1 lead, I tuned out. Watched "Grand Prix" (1966) with James Garner instead. What a great movie by director John Frankenheimer. Pretty incredible racing scenes. Very good script too, a rarity. This movie is probably superior to "Le Mans" with Steve McQueen, although that one too had awesome racing scenes. The difference is that Grand Prix's non-racing dialogue scenes are better, at least that's what I thought. Some great character development. Toshiro Mifune with a cameo role adds a nice touch too. 2.35:1 widescreen digitally remastered. You practically feel like you're standing on the racetrack or along for the ride with the drivers.
Last night's game was free on the mlb streaming site.
Worth every penny.

Ah, thanks Rufus! Good tip! I'm not exactly a tech genius. It's always extremely frustrating when websites make sudden changes to their layout. And the new "improvements" always make it worse. Why do they have to re-invent the wheel every couple of years? Kind of like Yankee management, eh?

John Frankenheimer had a string of great movies in the 60s. If you've never seen Seconds, starring Rock Hudson in a very different kind of role, find it and watch it. Really terrific.
Our record for “Big August” is 3-3. I’m thinking Bob Hope in that last, pathetic commercial he did for Big K-Mart.
James Wong Howe's cinematography was excellent in Seconds (as were many other things in the film)

Looked up "Seconds," which I have never seen. Wow, that sounds like one dark, mamajama of a movie, JM! But a good one.

Remember Ramiro Mendoza? He wouldn’t be allowed to exist in the current MLB. They’d up his spin rate, tell him to ditch his change up and make him a one inning reliever. As JM posted above…pitching, pitching, pitching. That bullpen is a disgrace or re-treads and never-weres. “Super Pen” my ass. But make sure you but the steak sammy or lobster tail by the third inning.
Just as well it's rescheduled, because it's rainy and yucky outside, and the Yankees stood to get mud and other dirty dirt stuff all over themselves. You can't play in that.

John Frankenheimer also directed Ronin, a pretty good movie from the 1990s. It's got an excellent chase scene through the streets of Paris.
