Whoosh. That was the sound of Boston passing us on its way to getting David Price

They'll pay him $217 million over seven years. He'll be pitching at age 37. (CC will go for us until 36.)

That leaves Boston with this starting rotation:

Price
Rick Porcello
Clay Buchholz
Eduardo Rodriguez
Wade Miley

Henry Owens and Joe Kelly to back-up.

Keep in mind, their bullpen now has Craig Kimbrel. There is talk that they'll package Jackie Bradley Jr. with Hanley Ramirez to fill another need. Their farm system is stocked, most notably because they signed Yoan Moncada. YO-AN MON-CADA? SLOWWWWWLY, I TURNED... STEP BY STEP, I MARCHED UP TO HIM...

They've been saying that the Red Sox system is stocked for years. They haven't developed that many players. Also, what team is trading anything of value for Jackie Bradley Jr. and Hanley Ramirez? They both suck, and Ramirez is owed 5 trillion dollars for the next 38 thousand years.

.....AND THERE IT IS.....THE BIG COG THAT BOSTON NEEDED, IS NOW IN THE FOLD....AND DON'T FORGET, THEY GRABBED CRAIG KIMBREL TOO........LETS REALIZE THAT LAST YEAR, THE RED SOX SIGNED 2 BIG MONEY FREE AGENTS THAT BOTH, WERE BUSTS FOR THEM.....THEY PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO GET RID OF EITHER OF THOSE 2 CONTRACTS, BUT YET, WHAT DID THEY JUST DO?...THEY JUST ADDRESSED THEIR 2 BIGGEST NEEDS, AND ARE SPENDING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $250 MILLION DOLLARS.......WHAT DOES IT MEAN?....IT MEANS THE BOSTON RED SOX WANT TO WIN IT ALL, AND SOON......AND SADLY, IT MEANS THE YANKEES, HALF HEARTEDLY, REALLY DO NOT..........GEORGE IS ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE.........I'M JUST SO FUCKING DISGUSTED.

Let's just hope this turns out like all other times they spent too much money in the off-season. And bennyboy raises a good point, the Red Sox system is overrated. Does anybody remember when Will Middlebrooks was going to be the greatest third baseman ever? I do. Where is he now? Behind Never Nervous Yangervis on the San Diego depth chart.

They could use a left handed ace for sure with that short right field joke but those long term contacts are almost always a disappointment.

They certainly improve themselves for the next few years by adding an ace and an ace reliever. But you know, you put Sandy Koufax and Goose Gossage on the 1962 Mets and they are still a last place team. The real question is whether all this overhyped young talent they have pans out -- and if veterans like Ramirez, Sandoval, Oritz, and Pedroia can stay healthy and produce.

Lots of question marks. I think Toronto and the Yanks are stronger. And also, Tampa is a pretty good team with lots of question marks as well, and in about the same category as the Red Sox.
