The Days of Awe Are Over! ATONE!

Actually, we can still watch the Red Sox in awe.  Even while we atone by watching the Yankees.

God works in mysterious ways...

I get to watch a Yankee/Red Sox high speed DVR skip all the bad parts double header tomorrow after sundown. Probably not the best way to start 5779. Then again, the Yankees are the 5779 Luxury Tax Champions! (Hat tip)

5779 already?  Where does the time go...

"And that's off the glove of Sanchez. It'll go as a passed ball."

One game playoff. Who's behind the plate?

Holy Hannah.

JM said...

And thanks to the passed ball, it's 1-0.

Ice cream for everybody!

JM said...

Today is the Day of Atonement. So much for Hal and Cash and Boone and Rothschild and Thames to attone for.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Walker cut off Hicks' throw home. Probably prevented another passed ball by Sancho Fatzo.

JM said...

So glad Walker is in the lineup. No stopping us now.

JM said...

I think the key is to paint baseballs so they look like deep fried fritters or scoops of ice cream. You bet your ass Sanchez catches everything.

If the Red Socks win this game and move on to take the World Series, does Gary Sanchez get a ring for the passed ball?

Can someone remind me again why we obtained Stanton?

Joe of AZ said...

Well looks like Boone has these boys ready to play tonight I can't keep up with such scintillating play!!!

This team has no balls....

Why the fuck is Toe and his .300 average on the bench while we waste at bats on Walker...

I hate management.

JM said...

The Whiffer does nothing, and now Ice Cream. Ben and Gary's.

JM said...

A walk. Wow, he didn't swing at a bad pitch there. I'm shocked.

And now, Neil "The Hat" Walker. Mr. .220.

JM said...

FFS, Walker nailed one.

Motherforker.

JM said...

My hat's off to The Hat.

Joe of AZ said...

Looks like he just bought himself another years contract

Did I just see what I think I saw? Am I awake? What time is it...?

JM said...

Easy, mein Herr. Betances or Britton could still blow it in the 9th.

But Walker. Go figure.

Anonymous said...

Walker flips his bat and walks 4 steps toward first base before breaking into a jog. Ah. Now you're Reggie Jackson, Neil? Whatta fuckin' bum.

TheWinWarblist said...

Judge checked his swing. That was bullshit.

TheWinWarblist said...

Anon, you are correct. A full season of suckage does not a bat flip make.

TheWinWarblist said...

Britton in the ninth.

TheWinWarblist said...

Dammit ICS!

Sanchez can't catch the ball, doesn't bother to give his pitcher a target. He will cost Boone his job.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

AnDUjar could have thrown that DP ball away just as well as Heinie.

Leinstery said...

It's actually impressive how fucking terrible they are at this little aspect of the game called fielding. Well hitting for contact too, but for the moment we'll focus on fielding.

Joe of AZ said...

OMG WHAT IN THE HELL....

The Master just now: "The Yankees deserve to lose this game"

Is there such a thing as a double-pineapple?

Joe of AZ said...

I miss Mariano :(

Let Walker pitch, Britton catch, Sanchez lay out the post-game buffet.

I knew I shouldn’t’ve Tuned in. What utter sucktotude.

Practice makes perfect ... I guess?

Give me a few minutes people. That was tough inning.

Magic number is 1.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

A seven out, one inning save.

Impressive. Yanks win World Series in 4 games. Better than the 1927 Yankees.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Any fool knows that ONLY the 2011 Red Sox were better than the 1927 Yankees.

Yankees played ball like farm animals in this game yet the scumbag Red Socks still find a way to lose by a solitary run. A team as pathetic as their fans. Even when the Yankees lose, they still cut the bella figura. Red Socks are as stylish as circus chimps. Eat it, Cora.

HOW CAN A TEAM THIS BAD HAVE 92 WINS!?!?!??? AHH! AHHH!!! Aha-ah-haaaaa!! HaaHaahahahahaaaaaaaaahhhh!!
AAaAhhaaaa-haha-haaa-hhhhhHHHHHHHHaaaaAAHHHHHHHHHHHaaaa-ah-ah-ah-aaaaaaaaAaAaHaHaHaaaAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!

HoraceClarke66 said...

That was a G_damned good win! I'd do 40 years in the wilderness for that one!

Well, all right. For the most part, it was the usual catalogue of horrors.

A key passed balls from ICS. All of 2 hits in 6 innings off Eovaldi, a man who gives up a hit an inning just by stepping on the field.
Three hits on the whole game. Fielding like dimwitted chimps.

We'll take it.

HoraceClarke66 said...

I'm on board with all those who were a little shocked that Neil Walker—at .220—went into his home run stroll. Yeah, you earned that one, big guys.

Afterwards, Ma Boone was practically weeping about how Neil is "a veteran guy"—questions: why are veterans automatically poignant in professional sports?—who got off to a tough start, but has really been producing more lately.

Actually, Neil has hit .185, with 6 ribbies now over the last month.

But hey—what's Ma supposed to say? And—we'll give him his props for having Walker in at first base to make that nice scoop on yet another bad, DP throw.

Who would have thought at the start of the season that Walker would have 6 more ribbies than Bird, be hitting 25 points higher, and be playing his position better than Bird does?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Anybody know if El Matador is okay? Yet another heart attack added to that ninth inning...

Also, we have to give Britton his props for that one, despite the poor throw. He did not give up or lose his concentration despite enormous provocation (all right, some of it his own. But still.).

I'm even willing to admit that Cashman's pick-ups bailed us out of this one.

HoraceClarke66 said...

And thanks for that reprint, Rufus. Always makes me feel good in times of trouble.

I WANT AARON HICKS BENCHED!!

WHAT HE DID WAS INEXCUSABLE!

THAT SICKENING "RELAX-LOAF" HE PULLED THAT TURNED A DOUBLE INTO A TRIPLE WAS AS SICKENING TO ME AS THE FAMOUS SANCHEZ LOAF TO FIRST BASE.

WHO'S TO BLAME FOR THIS AWFUL, LASTING MALAISE THAT SEEMS TO BE LASTING?

GOTTA GO WITH THE MANAGER.

NO WAY THE BINDERS PUTS UP WITH THIS.

DON'T GET ME WRONG, I DON'T WANT THE BINDERS ANYWHERE NEAR THE STADIUM, BUT IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE WE NEED MORE OF A DISCIPLINARIAN FOR THIS TEAM.

TOO MANY YOUNG PLAYERS NOT HUSTLING ALL THE TIME.

SANCHEZ....GLEYBER....NOW HICKS.

CAN'T NOT HUSTLE IN NEW YORK GUYS, THERE IS TOO MUCH UNDER THE MICROSCOPE HERE.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Yeah, some of these guys could do with a "Gil Hodges," ALL-CAPS. I think you know what I'm talking about.

JM said...

The best teams find a way to win and the worst teams find a way to lose. We found many, many ways to lose last night. No hitting. Hicks assuming a double and dogging it. Two easy double plays, blown. Passed ball that created a run.

What did we do to win? Walker played first and hit a Brosius-worthy HR.

There seems to be a problem here.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

I'd cut Hicks a break. Ground was soggy, and it didn't look like he would try for third. With a wet field, you don't want a pulled hammy unnecessarily.

And I hate to defend Walker, but he did win the game. He didn't flip the bat and it did hit the second deck.
