Best Yankee Defense Against Surging O's

Into every life, a little rain must fall:

;

We are still even with the Birds.

Dropping this opening series would be a backbreaker.

The pitching is fine. We don't need no Keuchel or Corbin. It's only 3-0 in the first. What's to worry about?

JM said...

Are we close to the fans storming the owner's box yet?

HoraceClarke66 said...

4-0 in the third.

HoraceClarke66 said...

But hey, The Gleyber with a hit!

I actually thought the way they were looking against Dylan Bundy that he might pitch a no-hitter today.

We're already ahead of the game!

The fearsome lineup that had no place for Harper being held in check by Cy Young today, after being stymied by Bob Gibson yesterday.

JM said...

Judge could not handle Gibson's ability to not throw strikes.

JM said...

Stanton was right on that fastball he missed.

JM said...

Voit dared to take strike 3.

Your 2019 New York Yankees. LOB: 3

HoraceClarke66 said...

Aaaannnnddd...the coupe de grace: Voit taking a 1-2 fastball right down the middle for strike three, with two outs and the bases loaded.

Does anyone know what the ML record for team LOB is? I think we have a genuine chance to break it this year.

I waited for three hours for THIS??? At least I vacuumed under the bed, which accomplished more than the Yankees are doing. I also wish to remove my late prophecy of a 93 game season and move it down to 81. Sounds about right. Thank god I didn’t spend a thousand Pounds to go to London to watch them get trounced by the Redstockings. I’m instead going to Munich to hear Joey Landreth, London to hear Andrew Bird, and a week later to hear Bird again in Copenhagen. Fuck baseball.

Fire Boone. Hire Buck.

Same old shit since, honestly, before 2009, but especially for the last six or seven years.

You know the expression: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results."

Same old shit.

Judge!

And a Stanton whiff. Of course.

For the record: in April 2018, in the Bronx, vs. the Orioles

TH 5 -- Lost 5-2

FR 6 -- Lost, 7-3

SA 7 -- Won, 8-3

SU 8 -- Lost, 8-7, in 12

In that Sunday game, Yankees scored 5 in the first.

SO . . . progress in 2019, or -- more of the same???

Joe, I truly appreciate your continued optimism here, and I feel bad about my negativity, but I recall near the end of last season thinking about how, if we had won half of the games we lost to the O's, we'd have contended. These are games we must win.

Joe Formerlyof Brooklyn said...

. . . by the way, the teams that performed in those 4 games were the NYYs (won 100 games) and the Bawlmore Orioles (lost 115). The Orioles look just as bad as they did last year ....against the Yankees, tho, not so much.

Meanwhile, the Boston Communist Sox -- in Seattle opening series this week --

Today -- Porcello, 2.2 innings, 9 runs (only 4 earned). 6 hits, 4 walks.

Sat -- Rodriguez -- 4.1 innings, 6 runs (5 earned), 8 hits, 3 walks

Fri -- (Sox won this one) -- Eovaldi, 5.0 innings, 6 runs (all earned), 8 hits, 2 walks

Thur -- Sale -- 3.0 innings, 7 runs (all earned), 6 hits, 2 walks.

Totals -- 4 Red Sox starters -- 15 innings in 4 games, 22 earned runs surrendered.

Perhaps we ought to be focusing our negative energies on TB + Tor.....

It's very early, but Jesus, ICS looks clueless at the plate.

Leinstery said...

Would somebody kindly tell the Yanks that opposing pitchers are allowed to throw pitches other than fastballs?

JM, out of the loop, what's ICS stand for

I missed a lot of the video of last season(accident; concussion; permanent brain damage; recovery; and then sudden need for hip replacement - still in rehab) but has Fatso (formerly known as Ice Cream Sandwich) supersized himself?

Three games into the season and the top "story" on Yank-jazeera at the moment is: "Judge Wants Yankees to Have Sense of Urgency."

First off, I'm glad he wants that. It's the proper sentiment. Second, he should not HAVE to want that. They should have it. Third, it's not normal to voice that kind of crap the first week of the season unless you're worried.

UGH.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Leinstery, in case you did not pick it up from Austria's Only Baseball Fan—who we are very glad to have back, and are ardently hoping will stay off the Disabled, excuse me, Injury List this year—"ICS" stands for "Ice Cream Sandwiches."

YOUR POST ABOUT THIS BEING THE "SAME OLD SHIT" SINCE 2009, BUT ESPECIALLY THE LAST 7 YEARS IS EXACTLY, 100%, ON THE SCREWS.

I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW OUR "RUN PROBABILITY" (IF THERE IS SUCH A STAT),WITH RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION AND NO OUTS, ONE OUT, AND 2 OUTS.

WHAT IS OUR BATTING AVERAGE IN THOSE SITUATIONS?

MY GUESS IS WE WOULD HAVE TO BE IN THE LOW .100'S (LIKE .125 - .145)...THAT EVEN SOUNDS HIGH TO ME.

IT HAS TO BE NEAR THE BOTTOM IN ALL OF BASEBALL,OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS, IT HAS TO BE.

YEAR AFTER YEAR, GAME AFTER GAME, WE STRAND TONS OF RUNNERS ALMOST EVERY SINGLE GAME.

I REALIZE OTHER TEAMS DO TOO, BUT IT CAN'T BE AS BAD AS US, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

THIS STANTON IS A DISASTER, AND I LAUGHED WHEN I KEPT READING IN SPRING TRAINING HOW HE IS A "DIFFERENT GUY" THIS YEAR, AND HE WILL BE BETTER ACCLIMATED TO NEW YORK THIS YEAR....BULLSHIT....IF HE COULDN'T HIT A SLIDER, OR IN THE CLUTCH LAST YEAR, WHY WOULD HE "TRANSFORM" THIS YEAR?.... FORGET ABOUT THE SLIDER, HE DOESN'T EVEN HIT A FASTBALL FROM A LEFTY!

I'M TELLING YOU, THIS IS WORSE THAN AROD IN THE BIG SPOT (AND THAT WAS BAD).

AROD WAS A DISASTER IN ALMOST EVERY POST-SEASON (EXCEPT FOR 1 IN 2009), AND THAT WAS THE YEAR WE WON IT ALL.

SURE MAKES A DIFFERENCE WHEN YOUR CLEANUP HITTER IS GETTING SOME HITS AND KNOCKING A FEW RUNS IN INSTEAD OF LEAVING TONS OF GUYS ON BASE, AND DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

FAT FRAUD PAPI WAS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE FOR THEM OVER US. THEIR CLEANUP HITTER BASHED HIS WAY RIGHT THROUGH US, WHILE OUR CLEANUP HITTER STUNK UP THE JOINT, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE MET THEM IN THE PLAYOFFS.

I AM JUST LOOKING AHEAD HERE.

THE PLAYOFFS AND BEYOND...

WE CAN NOT HAVE A GUY LIKE GIANCARLO STANTON HITTING 3RD, OR 4TH FOR US (I EVEN THINK 5TH IS A DISASTER TOO)....THESE ARE ALL PRIME RBI SPOTS WHEN CONTACT IS NEEDED. LETS BE HONEST, HE ALREADY COST US A GAME OR 2 IN LAST YEARS PLAYOFFS AGAINST BOSTON.

THIS GUY HAS NO PLAN AT THE PLATE OTHER THAN OBLITERATE THE BALL AS HARD AND AS FAR AS HE CAN EVERY TIME UP. THIS APPROACH IS A DISASTER COME PLAYOFF TIME. (IT'S ALREADY A DISASTER DURING THE REGULAR SEASON, AND I AM GOING BACK TO LAST YEAR). HE SUCKED IN THE CLUTCH ALL YEAR.... WE ALL KNOW THIS. SPORTS MEDIA SAYS, "WOW, HOW CAN YANKEE FANS COMPLAIN! HE HAD 38 HOMERS AND 100 RBI!"

FUCK THAT. THEY DON'T WATCH EVERY PITCH LIKE WE DO.

OUR HITTING COACH IS A JOKE. (OUR MANAGER IS A FUCKING PUPPET).

IN TODAY'S GAME, GARY SANCHEZ WAS SWINGING FOR A HOME RUN EVERY SINGLE TIME UP. HE HIT ONE, BUT FUCK IT, IT WAS A SOLO JOB, AND WE WERE 4 RUNS DOWN.

BIRD BURNS ME UP....TAKE IT THE OTHER WAY, THERE IS NOBODY NEAR 3RD BASE!

HOW BOUT FLIPPING LEMAHIUE AND GARDY? (LEMAHIUE IS WINNING ME OVER, AT THE PLATE).

SOMEHOW WE MADE THEIR PITCHERS LOOK PHENOMENAL.

WE SIGNED BRITTON FOR $45 MILLION DOLLARS.

WE SIGNED OTTAVINO FOR $30 MILLION DOLLARS.

SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE DOING PUTTING IN HOLDER IN THE 8TH YESTERDAY, AND TARPLEY IN THE 8TH TODAY?

THOSE GUYS SHOULDN'T SMELL THE 8TH OR 9TH INNINGS UNLESS WE ARE 6 OR MORE RUNS DOWN.

THEY DID JUST ENOUGH TO PUT BOTH GAMES OUT OF REACH.

MUTHERFUCKER.

SORRY, I'M VENTING.

I GOT A LOT MORE.

LET ME GIVE YOU GUYS A BREAK.

CUNT.

ALL-CAPS - let it out. You are among kindred souls. I think I can speak for many of us when I say "we're right there with you."

Obviously, they'll win some this year. They may even reel off a string of wins and suck us back into that giddy stratum of fandom where we dare to dream again. I'm not holding my breath, though, and I'm going to be looking over my shoulder the whole time if that does happen.

This is Groundhog Day. We DO have to be the masters of leaving men on base, of not hitting when we need to, and of whiffing when we should be watching.

This blog is the only place where I find solace. Like I said, I"m sure we'll win a few - at that point, the boys and the press-whores will all puff up and start to smile. They talk the talk about how good they really are inside and just needed to get it out. Let me tell you - as a recovering NY Jets fan, as someone who sold his childhood to those fuckers and forty-plus year beyond that, it's all bullshit. The same bullshit talk every year. Eventually, with the Jets, you would open the paper one day and someone would be talking about "mental problems." They were good, but they just could not focus. Happy horseshit, although there is some truth. Great teams, teams that win, they don't seem lost and flailing. They are focused and purposeful. They are led and trained by fanatical fuckheads, not always nice guys, but guys who know baseball. Aaron Boone is not a guy like that. He's Medvedev to Cashman's Putin. Boone is just a fucking toady. It comes from the top or, as an esteemed colleague of mine used to say at work, "Shit rolls downhill."

At least we can salvage some honor in knowing that we were sodomized by one of the best teams in baseball over the last few days...

THANKS 13...

WELL SAID....

I'M STILL RILED UP.

IT IS SO FUCKING FRUSTRATING...

HAL DOESN'T REALIZE WE MAY BE ON THE PRECIPICE OF LOSING NEW YORK TO THE FUCKING METS AGAIN, (AND HE SHOULD KNOW, THAT IS A HORROR).

THE COOP AND BOONE TANDEM (AND EVEN THE COOP AND GIRARDI TANDEM), ENRAGE ME WHEN ALL THAT MAY NEED TO BE DONE IS TO MAKE A SIMPLE LINEUP "ADJUSTMENT" IN THE ORDER TO HELP THE TEAM WIN.......PLAYER EGO'S NEED TO BE CHECKED AT THE DOOR.

.....BUT IT NEVER GETS DONE. THEY DON'T WANT CONFRONTATION, THEN HIDE BEHIND SABERMETRICS TO SOLIDIFY THEIR BELIEF. EVEN THOUGH IT IS KILLING THE TEAM.

EXAMPLE #1) AROD HITTING CLEANUP FOR 10 YEARS FOR US (EVEN IN THE PLAYOFFS)

EXAMPLE #2) JETER HITTING 2ND ALL YEAR IN HIS FINAL YEAR.

EXAMPLE #3) STANTON HITTING IN THE 3, 4 , OR 5 SPOT.

THESE ARE ALL PRIME EXAMPLES OF MANAGEMENT PUTTING PLAYERS EGO'S AHEAD OF THE TEAM WINNING.

UNACCEPTABLE, IN MY BOOK.

HoraceClarke66 said...

ALL-CAPS, I just wish the Mets DID have an owner who was hellbent on winning. It is the one thing that would force Zieg Hal to compete.

I think you guys have hit it on the head with Stanton. We have a serious, serious problem there, I think—one that will make A-Rod look like Joe DiMaggio.

First, Stanton was taking "A-Rod Gulps," just desperately sucking in air, during non-crucial at-bats this weekend. Today he had a wild, almost haunted look on his face—a thousand-yard stare.

I am actually beginning to wonder if he can fully see the ball.

I have a very bad feeling about this, a sense that he may flame out much quicker than even we think, be essentially done by, say, next year or 2021.

I'd say we should give him a day off, but we don't have the bench to make that possible.
