Poor, poor LeMahieu
He looks so stoic and sad,
He needs a new job.

AA! Happy birthday!

Coincidentally, I'm at a dinner for my father in law's 70th, the guests should be drifting in soon...

My wife and I are sitting way down at the end of the long table. So I can take a peek at GameDay now and then.

AboveAverage said...

thank you

Kevin - how ever did you know?

JM said...

Nice haikus, Acrilly
It ain't so easy
To do them that well!

JM said...

There is a game in a few minutes, right? The time difference screws up ESPN's start times...

AboveAverage said...

JM - I show that the start time is 3:40 PM - or approximately 3 hours away

JM said...

Crap. The time zones are messing me up.

JM said...

Still, I can still catch some of the game.

What a laugh! Ha! \Ha! Ha!

John would surely say:

I remember you mentioned your birthday at Bracken's Bar in the Bronx a couple of years ago. Happy Birthday, my friend! I didn't have time so I bought you the same gift as last year...just in a bigger size.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Mark Leiter....seriously? He sucks! And at 33, he's a lot older than I thought.

Carl J. Weitz said...

Wait, I'm thinking of Jack Leiter, Al's son and twin look-alike. Looking at his MiLB stats, he's even worse. And he was a #2 pick (first round) in 2021. What a bust.

BTR999 said...

MLB.COM

The Yankees have a deal in place to acquire right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. from the Cubs, according to Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN on X. In return, the Cubs will receive infielder Ben Cowles and right-hander Jack Neely. Rob Zamparelli has previously relayed on X that Leiter was headed to the Yankees.

Carl J. Weitz said...

LOLOL...The Yankees talent evaluators are some of the worst in MLB! That includes Cashman, who might be one of the most incompetent GMs, unless you count his scrap heap acquisitions. Look at Leiter's record this year and career.

2024....2-4, 4.21 ERA - .2 WAR
Career....8-21 4.53 ERA - .3 WAR

That's some shrewd deal making, eh?

Celerino Sanchez said...

I thought Neely was going to get called up soon

ranger_lp said...

Jeez, another stopgap FFS...

Celerino Sanchez said...

They don’t need the Cowles kid either. He’s place second base and is hitting .295 at AA, where would you play him?

BTR999 said...

Leiters ERA+ is 99
Leagues avg is 100
Ferguson’s is 81

Just an average BP arm

What’s that you ask?
Oh.
Mariano’s career ERA+ was 205.

BTR999 said...

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted that New York will end up acquiring Luis Rengifo and Luis García in a deal with the Angels.

"To NYY: (Infielder) Luis Rengifo, (Right-handed pitcher) Luis García (and) To LAA: (Infielder) Oswald Peraza, (Right-handed pitcher) Zach Messinger," Reuter said. "It's probably not the splash some New York Yankees fans are hoping for, but this is a deal that addresses two major holes on the roster in one fell swoop. Luis Rengifo is hitting .300/.348/.421 for a 114 OPS+ with 20 extra-base hits and 23 steals in 75 games"

This could mean bye-bye to DJLM

Carl J. Weitz said...

Renfigno is a good acquisition.

acrilly said...

Renfigno is here
Lou Ferrigno he’s not, but
don’t make him angry.

BTR999 said...

Still waiting for the official word on Renfigo.

Jack Curry confirms

The Astros are acquiring lefty reliever Caleb Ferguson from the Yankees for a prospect and international signing bonus space, reports Jack Curry of the YES Network

Celerino Sanchez said...

Watch now, Ferguson will probably win the Roland’s Relief award.

JM said...

What a dumbfuck Cashman is.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Yes, do trade a bullpen arm to a streaking team that has defeated you repeatedly in the playoffs over the past few years. I'm sure you got the better of that deal.

Incidentally, I'm glad the old comments section is back.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Jazz, Leiter, Jr.; AND Refigno? Pennant fever, take me away!!

JM said...

Was there a new one?

JM said...

Comments section.

AboveAverage said...

JM - I underestimated the time until the first pitch.

My Appy Polly Lodgies

JM said...

That's okay. Yeah, it'll be after midnight here. I'll be snoring.

BTR999 said...

Better cool that pennant fever - Cole scratched from his start tonight with “general body soreness”

Will Watten to start tonight

BTR999 said...

Yeah I noticed earlier there was a New Look comment section, in anticipation perhaps of a new look Yankees Squad with our new look acquisitions. Both are now dead in the water ☠️☠️

The Hammer of God said...

I get "general body soreness" just from reading about the stupid moves by Yankee management.

BTR999 said...

Again, how can we believe anything the team says regarding injuries ? They constantly lie.

Also Stanton scratched. No update available.

Meanwhile, the one player who could realistically move the needle, RP Tanner Scott has gone the Padres.
The Padres are all in. The Yankees, not so much…

Joe Formerlyof Brooklyn said...

Hearing about Gore, keeping DJLM in mind, expecting GStanton to blow up (yes, again), the words to a Dead song came to mind:

Goin' to leave this brokedown palace
On my hands and my knees, I will roll, roll, roll
Make myself a bed by the waterside
In my time - in my time - I will roll, roll roll

In a bed, in a bed
By the waterside I will lay my head
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
To rock my soul

Yeah, the Grateful Dead. Yeah, I'm freaking old. Yes, it ain't Haiku (sorry).

But......wasn't this NYY thing once a palace? And isn't it all breaking down?

Celerino Sanchez said...

General body soreness = see ya in 2025

AboveAverage said...

Boone generally rests a player coming off the IL after their first game back.

That’s why he’s smarter than all of us combined.

ranger_lp said...

Happy Birthday AA! Mine was five days ago…

JM said...

The Yankees are all in!

The toilet.

BTR999 said...

No further word on the Renigflo trade. Not happening.

Yanks acquire Engel De Los santos from SD. NOT a big time acquisition.

So the day that started with some optimism, has deflated like a punctured balloon with Cashman’s lack of productivity and the issues with Cole.

JM - at least it’s a state of the art, self flushing toilet with a pinstriped sanitizing puck at the bottom of the bowl!

Kevin said...

AA, we share birthdays you silly goose!

AboveAverage said...

Gotcha

ranger_lp said...

That was a memorable trade deadline…

AboveAverage said...

Did you get my card

Kevin said...

I can't fucking believe that Cole isn't taking the ball because of "body fatigue". Wtf, does he have mono, chemo, or schemo? I came up working for my dad, a WWII medic in Italy. Two and half years of it. I can imagine if I had told him that I was "fatigued". He would have laid me out! Cole has lost what little respect that I had for him...

ranger_lp said...

They did get Brett Philips…

ranger_lp said...

Kevin..he was dealing with stomach issues…24 hour variety…

AboveAverage said...

Alway thought he wuz a bottom feeder

BTR999 said...

An awful Torres AB. 2 more months of hum.

BTR999 said...

I say Warren doesn’t last 4

Rufus T. Firefly said...

A really loaded staff.

A la Foster Brooks.

Turning on Jeopardy. More interesting.

Celerino Sanchez said...

They wouldn’t trade Warren to SD, had to give them Thorpe.

AboveAverage said...

Rooophfizz - What is ……. the 2024 New York Yankees?

Mildred Lopez said...

I'm afraid we'll be seeing Clay "Gasoline" Holmes.

May as well turn it off now.

Pocono Steve said...

Now here comes Holmeslice the arsonist.

Hinkey Haines said...

Hold on to your pineapples.

Pocono Steve said...

Holmes has been unlucky so far

Rufus T. Firefly said...

It's never good to jizz too early.

ranger_lp said...

Fucking Holmes…

Hinkey Haines said...

There’s no ceiling on how much I can’t stand Holmes.

BTR999 said...

C’mon , you knew this was gonna happen.
Just as much Cashman’s fault and Boone’s fault

Parson Tom said...

maybe Holmes isn't the guy? I don't want to sound critical or anything, but I'm starting to wonder.

Doug K. said...

Wow great play by gleyber

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Good thing Ca$hole didn't need a closer at the trade deadline.

Who has Yankees score one and Philly two in the 10th on their bingo card?

Hinkey Haines said...

Didn’t have “Torres with the game-saving defensive play” on my bingo card.

ranger_lp said...

I think it’s time to DFA DJ…

Hinkey Haines said...

Anyone besides Rufus & me playing bingo?

BTR999 said...

With Torres, LeMahieu, and Volpe batting, failure in the 10th inning was assured.

Pocono Steve said...

At 0-6, I could have done as well as Wells tonight.

ranger_lp said...

Yankees Win!!!

Pocono Steve said...

Dafuq--I had given up. Maybe I should do that more often!

Hinkey Haines said...

That was a big Yankee win.

BTR999 said...

Foursome :
👻👻👻👻

Rufus T. Firefly said...

No one had that on their bingo card.

How about yahtzee?

TheWinWarblist said...

Why is Holmes still allowed to pitch in the major leagues?

AboveAverage said...

was eating my girthday dinner so I missed the end of the game.

what was the gleyber gem that a few of you were gleybering on about?

HoraceClarke66 said...

I think it was the juju gods giving in and celebrating AA's birthday!

(Congrats!)

AboveAverage said...

thanks Hoss - it could also be the mystical power of the Haiku renewing the Yankees' Power

Kevin said...

Well, at least we didn't trade away the "Crown Jewels" of the farm system. Unless we acquired a mega-star, this team just seems soft. Hope I'm wrong. Do they have talent enough for a ring? Maybe, if things break right. But I'm not laying money on the idea. And looking down the road, how long before this organization actually puts it "together". In my lifetime? Hell, think of all the people in various cities went from cradle to grave without their team ever taking home a ring. And most of those teams had the money to pull one in no matter what Bud Selig or Peter Gammons preached. Well, at least we beat the "Best team in Baseball" twice in a row. I dunno guys....

AboveAverage said...

And also allow me to wish a very happy Haiku birthday to Kevin.

May he live long and Scream and Scream Again!

Kevin said...

LMAO! Thank you Mr. A! I'm sure that this season will make me do just that!

Kevin said...

This is from Keith Law posting on "The Athletic" regarding the Jizz trade:

For the Marlins, the Jazz age ends with a whimper; they gave up Zac Gallen — now one of the best starters in baseball — to acquire Chisholm, but send him away for three fringe prospects.”

Maybe we didn't take such a systemic hit....

JM said...

Kevin, happy birthday one day late!

We still don't have a closer.
