I know it's early, but then, it's never too early to begin the next loss.

Wonder how they'll completely embarrass themselves today? Always a study in creativity, stupidity, and lethargy.

Why did Judge stay with this team? Was part of the deal that nobody else is competent, so he really shines? You know, like a diamond in the outhouse pit? Is he our new Mattingly (hopefully without the injuries)?

So exciting to see how this develops! It's like 1966 every day!

Oh, and...pass the mustard.

That's a lovely dumpster fire image, JM. Great work.

And - from today's Boston Herald:

"After a thrilling come-from-behind extra-inning victory in Friday night’s series opener – the first time in at least 115 years that the Red Sox won a road game against the Yankees when they trailed by multiple runs with two outs in the ninth – they’re back at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the second of three games with their greatest foes.

Though perhaps ‘greatest’ isn’t an apt description of the Yankees these days. Whereas the Red Sox are 15-5 over their last 20 games, the Yankees are 5-15, the worst record in the Majors over that span. On June 12, the Yankees were 14 games ahead of the Red Sox in the standings; they enter Saturday’s game with that lead down to a 4.5.

Since signing with the Yankees ahead of the 2020 season, Gerrit Cole owns a 5.16 ERA over 12 regular-season starts against the Red Sox, with 19 walks and 89 strikeouts over 68 innings. They’re hitting .250/.305/.508 against him, with 64 hits, 12 doubles, and 18 home runs, the most he’s given up to any team since donning the pinstripes. Seven of those round-trippers belong to Rafael Devers; he’s yet to take any other pitcher yard more than three times.

Cole has yet to make a clean start coming off the injured list. Over his first three games of the season, the reigning AL Cy Young allowed nine earned runs (6.23 ERA) on 13 hits, four homers, six walks, and 11 strikeouts. (Six of those runs, however, came in the middle outing.)

Always great to see the Herald, in a professional, objective way, dismantle our clownish efforts.

Before today’s shitshow commences, please allow me to express my gratitude for this blog, without which I would surely go insane.

DickAllen said...

Wonder what Rizzo’s future looks like?

JM said...

The ball is cloudy. Try again later.

BTR999 said...

It sez here a younger third baseman than Lemehieu makes that catch

DickAllen said...

Nobody is biting on Cole’s fastball up in the zone.

The time is coming when he will need to adjust his approach and start pitching to contact.

JM said...

Colace today.

JM said...

So far this year, Cole is an ace like Holmes is a closer.

Doug K. said...

So Soto is now under .300.

JM said...

50 million?

JM said...

Walks a lot.

JM said...

Wow, Vertigo hit a homer. I'm watching England - Switzerland. Looks like it's coming down to a penalty kick shootout.

DickAllen said...

A BUNT! A SACRIFICE BUNT!

Is that still allowed?

BTR999 said...

Runner on 3rd less than 2 outs, another RISP failure. This is how/why the team loses.

DJLM is useless now. He’s only here because we owe him so much money. Release him, and release us.

Doctor T said...

Who will Cashman throw under a bus to save his sorry skin this time?

What panicked deal will he make for an aging, broken player that implodes upon contact with a baseball field?

These and other exciting questions grip my mind as I watch the Yankee dumpster fire explode into flames, on que.

DickAllen said...

DJL couldn’t even get the ball out of the infield with a runner on third and one out. Time for a retirement home?

DickAllen said...

Ha! BTR! You beat me to it!

Hinkey Haines said...

Devers homered off Cole??? What a shock.

BTR999 said...

Dick, I’m just writing what we’re all thinking

Here’s another: we let the other team’s big hitter, who always kills us, do it again. Couldn’t try pitching around him?

When they give LeMahieu his ticket out of here, give one to boone too…

JM said...

Colace strikes again.

JM said...

ERA now 6.75.

Gee, you think he was ready to come back? He certainly thought so.

The 2024 Yankees are a dumpster fire in the hazardous waste bin at the sewage treatment plant.

Plus KayWhy? is announcing. Paging Dr. Kevorkian!

DickAllen said...

ANOTHER BUNT!!!

JM said...

I'm impressed that a number of Yankees can bunt really well. Scooter would be so happy.

JM said...

Volpe! Nice

JM said...

Some power there.

JM said...

Good eye.

DickAllen said...

Wow. Who are these guys?

JM said...

DJ came through that time.

JM said...

We've seen this before, Dick. Then next game they're back to sucking.

JM said...

I think we have a first baseman.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

They always get your hopes up before a soul crushing defeat.

JM said...

Wow.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Ca$hole will trade him for a middle reliever at the deadline

JM said...

Soto pulls a Gleyber.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

WTF was that? The new version of the mercy rule?

DickAllen said...

Rufus, I was thinking the same thing. The Intern is perfectly capable of great heights of stupidity

BTR999 said...

Soto’s great, but loves to showboat.

DickAllen said...

I’ll bet Soto HATES being the DH

BTR999 said...

And yes creditto LeM and Volpe, 2 good AB’s.

And of course Rice!

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Dick,

Soto has said he hates DHing.

Another great bonehead idea to put him there.

DickAllen said...

Rufus I have faith that I can always rely on Booooone making the smart move

DickAllen said...

The Yankees might actually win this game, but with the superior bullpen The Intern has assembled, this is definitely a save situation.

JM said...

Holy fuck. Three fingers. 7 ribbies.

JM said...

Dingers

DickAllen said...

Damn! Hat trick!

Hinkey Haines said...

Rice is having a good week today.

Hinkey Haines said...

The Rice is right!

JM said...

Good ones, Hinkey and BTR.

JM said...

Polish kid does okay.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Three fingers is also correct JM.

And BTR, I think you have what would have been the Master's HR call for uncle Ben.

JM said...

It's good to win.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

KayWhy? actually came up with "Rice, Rice, baby!" He is pretty vanilla toned.

Rufus T. Firefly said...

Incredibly, Uncle Ben grew up a Yankee fan deep in the heart of Lucchino Land, Cohasset mASSachusetts.

BTR999 said...

Good to have some fun.

Ben Rice…once, twice, th-rice?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Wait, Ben Rice only has three fingers? That makes this all the more impressive.

Joe of AZ said...

Ben Rice kinda reminds me of Greg Bird.... hopefully the comparison ends with this sentence. 😒

JM said...

Hoss, like Mordecai Brown?

JM said...

A's beating the Orioles 14-1 in the fourth.

Ha-cha.
