イチロー対火星人!!! (Ichiro Versus the Martian!!!)

I was doing my morning reading (morning here, middle of the night in New York) and checked Bleeding Yankee Blue (which should be "Bleeding Yankees Blue," with an S, but why quibble...). The top post concerned Boone's idiotic use of Jasson Domínguez. (Of course, how else would the idiot use him?) They aren't the only blog infuriated by this one, either. (And without saying so, Boone also seems to have infinite patience with the white Volpe and Wells, no matter how badly they're hitting, over the foreign, Hispanic Peraza or Dominguez. But some other day for that.)

Among all the points BYB makes, this one stands out to me because of...Ichiro.

"Take Monday's game against the Padres. A right-handed pitcher on the mound? Great! That should be Dominguez’s moment—he’s hitting over .300 against righties this season. But Boone, in all his wisdom, decides to sit him. Why? Nobody knows...After a Sunday lineup so embarrassing it should’ve come with a refund for ticket holders, Boone followed it up by benching Dominguez for no apparent reason."

Which brings me back to Ichiro. He took a lot of crapola here on the blog when he was a Yankee. A LOT. Which I didn't agree with at the time and still don't (SEE: dog with bone). Check out his splits while he was a Yankee in 2012 and 2013.

It doesn't take a genius to see that he batted about 100 points better as a lefty facing lefties. So, what did Binder "Bonehead" Girardi do? Why, what he obviously should have done: he used Ichiro to bat against RIGHTIES.

Yes, I'm still pissed off about that. Binder Boy didn't seem to look at his binder very closely, he just went with the old tradition of lefty against righty, righty against lefty, regardless of whether it worked or made any sense.

So now, replacing Jarhead Joe, we have Boone. Who is the worst manager I've ever seen in a Yankees dugout going back to my memories of Ralph Houk chewing tobacco in the 60s. Boone is ignoring what the Martian is good at, and keeps putting him out there when he has a greater chance of failure. Just like Girardi (whose voice still makes my skin crawl as a game commentator).

I can only draw one conclusion. Boone is an idiot. Incredibly, he's a step DOWN from Girardi. You have to admit, that's really impressive. Not in a good way, but impressive.

If I wasn’t awake I’d be dreaming of a Yankees team managed by a manager that wasn’t an idiot.

Which brings me to the following question:

What IF, in fact, most MLB managers are actually idiots?

What IF, in fact, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

What IF, in fact, the grass is the same urine-faded, weedy, hay-colored straw on the other side?

I may have to explore this a bit further after I have myself a few more hours of “non-dog has an issue and needs to go out” interrupted sleep.

(Thanks for the late night post, JM)

Still not convinced it’s boone making out the lineups.. I mean, what’s with constant alternating LH-RH hitters? It’s like a fetish. Did boone male his wife alternate hands when jacking him off? No wonder she left him.

Boone claims he makes out the lineup with input from a couple other bozos in the clubhouse, not front office. I'll blame him until officially informed otherwise.

His grasp of the game is pathetic. But you already know that.

Idiot Boone is a few big steps down from Girardi, yes.

Incredible but True!

It’s just that…his lineups truly suck. Meaning it’s not just hyperbole, he is truly a goddam idiot.

Submitted for your approval : the best Yankee managers since 1960 were Dick Howser and Gene Michael.

You've got my vote. Those two were in a different league than the rest.

Regarding the Ichiro years/teams. I could never understand why Girardia never (at least in the many, many games that I watched) used Ichiro as a pinch-hitter in games where a single/sac fly would drive in the tying or go ahead run. He still had great bat to ball skills, and those teams were a bit thin in that facet. Girardia was so fckng anal in his managing that he looked like a man who really needed a dose of the ol' milk of magnesium. The last couple of years he looked at times like he was going to attack reporters who asked the wrong question (they were always the wrong question). Now when I watch games it's MY FACE that resembles Girardi's. Boone sounds like a politician with his word salad explanations. After all, it's not a crime to let your players take some criticism from the press once in awhile.
