Caroline Kennedy Seeks Final Opening in Yank Rotation

Announcement Leaves Cashman Little Choice

New York _ Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of America’s most storied political and drinking dynasty, will seek the fifth seat in the New York Yankee rotation, which may be vacated by Andy Pettitte.

Ms. Kennedy ended weeks of silence with a series of phone calls to Yank management, in which she emphatically declared herself ready to hurl, according to several people who received the 3 a.m. calls.

“She told me she hurls every day, sometimes twice,” General Manager Brian Cashman said Monday. He added, “She said she's got nasty, filthy junk, but she can control it. She wants to show us. Frankly, if she scares the opposition as much as she scares me, she can help this team.”

Cashman said he is still waiting for Pettitte to reconsider the Yank $10 million offer, but the notion of Kennedy filling out the rotation is appealing.

"We'd go from Joba to Caroline," he said. "That's sort of like going from Hillary to Caroline."
