Is there a team in baseball that has developed so few of its own players as the Yankees? The O's have Machado, and the Redsocks next year will offer their fans Bogartes and Jackie Bradley Jr. And we will once again have nothing, no impact players from the farm system. And frankly, unless somebody emerges, we might be in the tank through 2015. Under what metric system does Brian Cashman look like a success?

We are about to cede New York City to the Mets, and that's not easy to do.

It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.

Rachel Robinson looked like she was in pretty good shape. Maybe Cash can sign her for next year. That would put a few fannies in the seats.

Buck up, Duque. We'll always have Zolio.

Hold the presses! MLB.com just announced that last night Cashman signed Metallica for the 2014 season. A whole new infield, even older and more decrepit than the present one! Apparently Cash is also working on a one year contract with Ozzie to replace Chris Stewart. Looks interesting!

"Hetfield has it...flips to Hammett...over to Lars...DOUBLE PLAY! How do you like that!?"

"Those are some great signings by the Yankees, John. Just think, now you'll have a perfectly legitimate reason to work your version of 'One' into a home-run call. I can't WAIT for spring!"

Well this season we had Gardner, Warren, Pettitte, Jeter and Cano. It's not terrible. The Mets have a completely homegrown infield and they blew chunks. Take your pick.

Cano was an international free agent. The Yankees' home-grown talent is woebegone. Jeter and Pettitte are from a previous century. Gardner is pretty good but not great, and he's the first everyday player the Yanks have fielded from the American draft since Jeter, who was signed in 1992. That is just an awful record, and would get any other GM fired--any other GM not working for an organization that is run like a mafia social club, where personal loyalty and groveling before the head of the family is more important than professional competence.

Two insightful contributions above. Thank goodness Anonymous is back on his medication. Welcome home, big boy!

By the way, a earlier blogger paired "Mencken [and] Twain". If you can run a search, you'll likely discover Anonymous' previous posts.

Cool Standings still gives us a 0.6% chance of making the post season. We're not dead yet!! I'm buying Powerball tickets and rooting for the Yanks. Odds about the same and I feel lucky.

anybody going to the last home game this Thursday? I owe you all a beer. you've made the season tolerable.
