Serious Wake-Up Call: Why Didn't We Think Of This?

Brad at YankeeGM Blog writes:

We are starting a petition to have a George Steinbrenner Day at the stadium and a plaque put in Monument Park. We think it would be great to be able to show GMS our appreciation while he's still around.

If you would put up a post about it along with the link to the petition we would appreciate it!

Here's the link.
Right on! Why isn't there already a George Steinbrenner Day? (And I don't want to hear 'every day is George Steinbrenner Day.')

A plaque is a fitting tribute, much better than a whole spring training complex.

Especially when you consider what insiders say were GMS's suggested names to replace the Legends Field moniker.

Scrawled on a single, crumpled sheet of NYY letterhead was as follows:

"Sons want to talk about renaming field. Asked me to bring some ideas to table. Meeting conflicts with my TV schedule. Nuts! (Tell Cashman to record shows.) Off the top of my head, I have three ideas:

1. Matlock Field

2. Trapper John, M.D. Park

3. Wheel of Fortune Yards

GMS"

I know you don't want to hear it.

But it's true, and you're just going to have to face it.

Every day IS George Steinbrenner Day.

Maybe we could have a bronze plaque made of the pardon that Nixon granted him. That could be our contribution. Or something with Dave Winfield.

If there is going to be a GMS monument at the new stadium, then I want it right next to one of Jay Buhner.

It's no big deal. People in North Korea praise their leader everyday.
