The Great Descent

As the Yankees plummet toward .500, we should all remember that Hal Steinbrenner rewarded his General Manager, recently, with a new contract.  And Hal rewards failure.  He says: "I love incompetence.  The more stupid things you do, Brian, the more I value you."

And here is what we have:

Our veterans are coming apart at the seams.

Players for whom we traded top prospects, all linger at the MRI machine, awaiting results.

The starting pitching consists of " two and counting."

We have no closer.

Luck has turned to the dark side for yankee prospects ( new guy comes up, makes great play, and is probably headed for knee surgery without an at bat.). Worse, this exact scenario happened to the Yankees before.

We cannot rid ourselves of Aaron Hicks, who is now a danger to the other outfielders ( one of whom is an infielder), as well as to infielders.

Our offense is 2 runs and a prayer. On a good day.

Our catchers are not a threat of any kind on either side of the ball.  And, they are getting old. The guy we secured as catching depth has been injured for three straight years.

Relievers are now "no names" who couldn't make it in the minor leagues. And we don't have enough of them.

Our top prospects are all in Venezuela or the Dominican Republic.  Florial remains our top prospect at AAA.

This NY team is now falling to a level worse than the Giants, and dare I say Knicks, have been.

And there is no way out.

Bring on the Rays.

Is anything, in a meaningful way, going to change? Yankee ownership is not interested in championships. Sure, they would take one if one happened to come their way but it is not the primary goal. The only goal is to be just competitive enough to drive revenue. That's it. The pathetic part is this franchise is part of my DNA so I am addicted. I'm not going anywhere. And they know it. Damn me!

A disgusting “performance” today. A total, incontrovertible failure of management and ownership. People need to stop attending, stop buying, stop watching. Revenue and Profit is the only language those lightless scum speak. Everything else is just shouting words into a howling wind.

The sad thing they'll blame this on cabrera, peraza and volpe although they need to be patient with all 3 as they've all shown signs of being Productive in the lineup... dead weight is everywhere else....

Boone does not have a long time left as manager of the NY Yankees if, they continue to fade. He’s preferred by upper management as a puppet and a pacifier for veterans, but he lacks the elements (toughness, experience, intelligence, instinct and savvy) to integrate a team of youth and veterans.

Cashman isn’t going anywhere unless he’s dealing with a health issue.

So, it’s easy to complain - but who replaces Boone if he’s shown the door.

I still think it should be David Cone because he has the toughness, experience, intelligence, instinct, savvy and respect to turn this around.

Question is whether he’d take it on or not.

Cone’s experience isn’t as manager - I get that but I do believe that he’d be a lot better than Bubbles

BTR999 said...

Then again, what was Boone’s experience as a manager?
Cone could handle the job but is too much of a free thinker for Cashman + Steingrubber.

True BTR999 - but I would be excited to see him in that position.

BTW - BTR - How's was the Overlook this winter? I heard it was a tough one.

Love you Creatures.

Foolishly, I abandoned my original insistence on 77 wins for 93. I must have not been drinking.

Then there is the dog that didn't bark.

Conspicuous in his silence is The Gleyber. This is very much the moment for Torres to step up. But he doesn't. Another complete washout—this time by the guy who was supposed to be the keystone to the team.

No Duque:
He believes he owes Genius C ashman. Hal is a putz. Hal would not bring back Girardi and Cashman used the new direction theme. That is what Hal should have said to The Genius. Four years of Cashman, four years of failue. The Yankee lineup sucks and so do the idiots who run the Yankees.

You guys are such pessimists that it sickens me.

Come on now, Did our parents give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Did Kevin Bacon refuse to be swatted again?

We need to do something utterly meaningless like go to Yankee games and buy Aaron Hicks jerseys just to make Hal smile.

Really, the 2016 International Signees will be here any day now.
Lyle Overbay said that he would give it another fling if Vernon Wells will and Rodon got a manicure today on his pitching hand.

Everything will be alright.
