Twenty four. Too many. They won't make it, at least, not still in 2nd place.
The Yankees are playing .500 ball, despite the strongest rotation they've seen all year.
The starters cannot last another 24 games. You can't keep running pitchers out there, knowing if they give up two runs, the game is over.
Something's gonna blow.
The rotation cannot hold.
They say Cody Bellinger is a week, maybe 10 days away. (Would he miss his Bobblehead Night, Aug. 21?) But are we talking about the Cody Bellinger who is batting .259 with lollipop power? And which Giancarlo Stanton will return - (assuming he ever does?) Will it be the Giancarlo whose swings defy the laws of physics, or the old guy, pushing 37, who can't run or open a bag of Fritos?
This is it. Hell Week. The dog days. Our worst stretch of 2026. Nobody is hitting. We botch plays in the field. And we're squandering great starts. Two weeks ago, the Blue Jays looked like a garage sale. Yesterday, we made them look like contenders. Today, they're going to sweep us. Does anybody on this team have a spark?
It's time to break glass. Sound the alarm. This is a full-blown emergency.

Hot stove coming up. Lockout coming up. Luckily, martial law overrides both things. Good to be alive. I miss the 20th century sometimes.
So, at what point do we start to wonder about our major league hitting coaches? While I understand the impact of losing those on the IL, some thing just not right about the way we approach each at bat with the abysmal results these past few months.
I like Spencer, but how in Gods name was he allowed to reach the highest level of baseball with that swing? How did .Wells go from. hit first catcher to a 200 hitter?
These guys are supposed to be professional hitting gurus…..
I guess they replaced that dude, Matt Lawson, but not the AI driving their mantra "hit strikes hard".
Saw the Red Sox national tv game last night. I don't know what happened during their bad streak recently, but they're hot again. Saw that guy Monasterio foul off gazillions of pitches. Monasterio ... what fun we could be having with that name if he played for the Yankees? Monasterio ... gone are the days of mono, we're comin' at you in full stereo! Monasterio ... get thee to a monastery!
Looks like full on "SUCK" mode coming on fast. Commander Ba-Boone must've pressed that "SELF-DESTRUCT" button again by mistake. "THIS IS HAL-2026: SELF-DESTRUCT SEQUENCE COMMENCED ... T-MINUS 39 GAMES TO DETONATION, COMPLETE OBLITERATION ... PREPARE TO ABANDON SHIP! ... T-MINUS 38 GAMES ...."
Oh, Pgpick. WERE that Austin Wells were a .200 hitter. He's at .180 right now, and that's up 20 point from where he has been almost all season.
The problem is, and always has been, that they try, but actually *miss* strikes hard.
Commander Aaron Ba-Boone, a manager barely alive. Gentlemen, he is consulting his spaceship manual for assistance whilst chewing his favorite brand of bubble gum, Big League Chew. (Com. Ba-Boone takes out his reading glasses and puts them on.) He has the technology to leisurely read the legal disclaimer: "The publisher of this book assumes no responsibility for user error in pressing the 'SELF-DESTRUCT' button." He is convicted that this sentence contains some meaning that only Artificial Intelligence can discern. Gentlemen, he is reaching for his smart phone to call Flight Operations Director Brian Cashman. "Hello, Brian? ... Oh hell, he's not picking up.... Brian, ummm, when you get this message, ummm, please call me directly. I, ummm, mistakenly pressed the, ummm, SELF-DESTRUCT button again. I can't make head or tail out of this here, ummm, spaceship console manual. I'm convicted that we might have, ummm, a small problem here. Thanks."
