While the NY Gammonites ludicrously call for more veterans, the Boston scribes are thinking about next year

It's like a case study comparing the histories of the Knicks and Celtics.

Sunday, Mark Feinsand in the Daily News blathered that the Yankees should do whatever it takes to pry Cliff Lee from Philly. Dear God. Something must have snapped in his head, since he lost the Daily News Fifth, with John and Suzyn. It's as if Feinsand is now channeling a pre-adolescent 11-year-old, who pictures bizarre Yankee trades in sexual fantasies. You know: The Yankees should trade Yang Yang Solarte for John Lester and Dustin Pedroia... something like that.

Jeez. In some distant, alternative universe, sportswriters are supposed to sound intelligent. And maybe that universe isn't so far away. In Boston, Gordon Eades is taking about moving John Lester and even Steven Drew, whom the team signed just five weeks ago. They can retool - as they did two years ago - can be a power in 2015.

Meanwhile, we would sputter around .500, selling off next year's hopes in a miserable chase for a one-game wild card? Good grief. Is Stephon Marbury available?
