Letter to the Editor: Did the U.S. Supreme Court strike down the salary cap?

Eastern Express Times (Pennsylvania)
February 6, 2010 Saturday

Dear Editor,

The U.S. Supreme Court decided to allow unlimited contributions by special interests, or as Lee Merendino (letter, Feb. 3) put it, &big bad corporations.& This in an effort to ensure the First Amendment rights of those companies.

Apparently Merendino isn't aware or does not care that this will affect every election from this point. The most funded parties, whether the Democrats, the GOP or a third party, will inundate us with those obnoxious ads and borderline slandering of the opposing candidate. This to get their special-interest candidate elected. We all remember the nausea-inducing ads from the last election cycle. Well, wait until this year's midterms.

Let's liken this to Major League Baseball and its no-salary-cap process. Last year the New York Yankees proved they were the best team in the baseball. Kudos to George Steinbrenner and the team. He truly fielded the &best team money could buy.& I say welcome to our new government, the &best one money can buy.&
