News from Yankee Country: Kingston Driver hits .43 BAC level

Is the .50 BAC barrier going to fall?

Brian M. Tumas, 36, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and resisting arrested shortly after 2 p.m., police said.

State Police on the New York State Thruway said they had received a report of an intoxicated driver and found Tumas making an illegal u-turn in the town of Catskill.

Tumas was taken to Kingston Hospital for observation.

When I was (much) younger, I was a Radiologist in a central NJ hospital, friendly with some of the ER Docs. They had a club called the "400 club" - to be a member you must have had a tested blood alcohol level above .400 and live to tell about it.
The record, I was told, was over .700, and these are from documented hospital records.
Not too many dudes recovered from this level of toxicity, but it is amazing what some people will do (and some bodies can tolerate).
