The votes are being cast, and every prediction for November starts with one outcome...

... That Mister Gary Sanchez - aka "The Kraken" and formerly "the future of the Yankees" - needs to find a new city.

There is no debate here. No on-the-other-hand. No suggestion that he'll "lose weight and rededicate himself to the game." Nope. The alarm clock is buzzing on his time in Gotham. Gary needs a small market Podunk with one Interstate exit, an afternoon newspaper that's still running Peanuts, and a Saturday book club. For his own good, it's time to go.

Of course, we'll miss him. Please write and insert here a long, heartfelt tribute. I shall propose my own central question:

What can we get in return?

Disclaimer: Proposing trades is not my thing. Besides, Cooperstown Cashman never pulls off the trades that bloggers predict. Never. We can only offer broad stroke possibilities, okay? Broad. Stroke. Possibilities.

On that note, Gary Sanchez won' be the worst guy on the 2020-2021 trading block. In fact, he might be one of the most intriguing. He's only 28, with a price tag of $5 million per season - relatively cheap, as fliers go - and he won't hit free agency until 2023. If a GM concludes that Gary's impossibly woeful 2020 was a mere two-month statistical glitch, he could be a bet worth making. Good grief, you might just get an all-star catcher.

That's the argument Cashman must make to every GM stupid enough to pick up the phone. My guess is that Cash will seek pitching, pitching, pitching - maybe a few young bullpen arms.  One of the greatest deals he ever made was getting Chad Green and Luis Cessa for Justin Wilson. That's the deal he wants to remake.

Where might Gary go?

At first glance, you'd think Cash would seek an NL team, to keep Gary from haunting us 12-to-16 times a season. But Sanchez's attraction is his bat, and that probably means an AL venue. Seattle? The Angels? The West Coast? Whatever...

And who will catch for us?

Some bloggers suggest the Yankees sign JT Realmuto, a 30-year-old free agent, who is viewed one of the game's best catchers. I dunno 'bout that. He will probably demand a five-year-deal, and I doubt Cash will bite. Three of the Yankees recent top recent draft picks are catchers, plus a high-profile Latino signee. I gotta  figure the Yanks expect one to reach the majors in the next two years.

Finally, one question remains: Wither goest Higgy?

Kyle Higashioka did well in the playoffs. A few hits, a few blocks, some lasers to 2B. Can he be our 2021 starting catcher? Or, at least, the RH side of a platoon?

A cold, hard winter is coming. I do believe it will whisk away Gary Sanchez. And where the former "future of the Yankees" lands lands might be the first domino to drop on 2021.

We won't get any pitching for Sanchez, unless it's of the Class A South Atlantic League variety.

The hope for a trade for Sanchez that would best align with our needs would be 1-2 good lefty bats.

Here’s my really stupid talk radio yankees homer what-if trade proposal:
Judge, Sanchez, German for Mike Trout?

I'm happy to get a bag of chips in return for Sancho, along with any "player to be determined later." This is addition by subtraction. Let's not get greedy.

Let's try Higgy full time for a year and see what happens. Call it a "transition year," don't expect to do much, and maybe be pleasantly surprised.

And maybe we can unload Chappy somehow? I cannot have another season end wit that guy on the mound looking clueless. I know it was not all his fault, but he is not the guy for us. Trade him while he's still worth something. Same for Judge.

Sadly, the real problem - Cashola - will not be going anywhere.

We trade Sanchez for ice cream. Lots of it. And sell it at the stadium next year for the usual high prices.

Then we sign a 16 year old kid in the Caribbean with the money.

A few things...

1) I always shake my head when they talk about Sanchez's historic OPS numbers and how they compare with the greats. He had a fast, amazing start and it inflates the numbers big time. If you take away his first year he pretty much sucks.

That said, the historic numbers are all we have to sell. So as far as I'm concerned Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, Gary Sanchez! Who's with me?

2) As to what we can get for him. He is a "change of scenery" guy so we get another "change of scenery" guy. and maybe a lower league arm. He's worth more than a bag of balls. What team is desperate for catching? Shit, it's us. Well, who else?

3) As to trading him to an AL club. Sure. Let's face it, who among us doesn't want our pitchers facing him in the middle of an opponent's rally? While even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while most of them starve to death or get eaten by a cat.

JM,

Good idea!

As a side note: I'm waiting for NY to legalize pot so they can sell baseball themed edibles at the stadium like the "High Popsicle"

Am I mistaken or does the team still have opinions on Sanchez? If so, the minors. If not, use him as the backup catcher and rebuild, hopefully, his value. It's been decades since I've loathed a player more, but I can't stomach the idea of selling low. Remember, you can always sell low.

@ El Duque "Good grief, you might just get an all-star catcher."

He is an All-Star catcher. 2X All Star I think.

@ Kevin Yeah, I agree with you. There is no need to sell low. We shouldn't underestimate his value. He's just got his head in a cloud somewhere. The talent is extraordinary, except for blocking balls in the dirt, which he does suck at. Our coaches simply don't know what the hell they're doing. He will be a great player on a team with good coaches. We should be able to get at least one top pitching prospect + one mid level pitching prospect + a decent reliever + maybe a draft pick too.

He's ready for Pittsburgh, San Diego, Cinci, Milw., or maybe Texas. Somewhere with a solid Spanish coach to identify with him. We should get something of value in return because a team will have him for 3 years.. BTW, the arbitration system is really rigged if his salary goes up after this season. Some joker in the NY Post wrote that he thinks that Sanchez will get a raise. Yeeesch.

Don't sell low - just give him the fuck away. He's bad news. We'll get something for him, but - HERE'S THE DEAL - we won't know if he's any good or not because Cashman will be the one doing the trading. IT'S ALL A CRAP SHOOT WITH CASH.

I don't want to see his face anymore. And Kevin, I don't know if we opinions on him OR options. I don't care. We're not playing 3D chess here. Find a team that thinks he's good, get what we can, then burn his jockstrap in centerfield with a lot of sage. He's a lazy, distracted guy. He had that one flash and we were all wowed. He has since proven - many times over - who he really is.

Don Cooper was jettisoned from the White Sox today, along with Rick Renteria. I wouldn't scream if the Yankees were to snap both of them up. Especially Cooper.

Hey 13Bit:

I missed getting together with you and all the other people who patrol these waters at a stadium outing this summer.

Find a team that thinks he's good, get what we can, then burn his jockstrap in centerfield with a lot of sage.

That sounds like a fine idea for the next IIHIIFIIc outing!  Please let me help with the planning.

Love it, Bitty!

And you're right, in this as so much else, Brain is our Catch-22. 'Hey, we should trade that guy, we could get something for him. Oh, right, Cashman will be doing the trading.'

I seem to remember another player who had got off to a great early start in his career, but just couldn't seem to play in New York: the perfect metric name, Sonny Gray. We traded him for a Single-A outfielder with absolutely no potential, named Josh Stowers. Sonny went to Cincinnati, and went back to being a fine, No. 2 or 3 starter.

Sigh.

So we should get something for Sanchez, but what? We already missed our great chance to trade him, even up, for Realmuto, who now wants $200 mill, reportedly, and is no doubt being targeted by the new regime over in Queens.

Sancho really did look like the second coming of Johnny Bench early on.

After that first year of 20 homers, .299/.376/.657/1.032 in 53 games, he hit 33 more in 122 games, and slashed .278/.345/.531/.876.

Passed balls aside, he was generally an excellent defense catcher, throwing out 41% and 38% when the AL averages were 29% and 27%, and quickly winning a reputation as a superior pitch framer.

What went wrong?

Well, maybe he's just got his head on wrong, or he's having a dissociative break, or he's devastated by the burning of the rain forest in Brazil. But judging by the fate of nearly every other young Yankee who looked so promising in 2017, I'd guess that injuries and bad coaching have destroyed his game, much as they did with Bird, Judge, Severino, Andujar, and Torres (Frazier soon to follow, most likely).

When you turn the Magnificent Seven into the Seven Dwarves in just three years, it's more than coincidence.

No doubt, Sanchez would be happier elsewhere. Who could blame him?

I honestly don’t think Sanchez has the desire or drive to be a major league catcher. Purely conjecture on my part, but I’ve never seen him get mad at himself for all his failures....break a bat, throw a helmet, argue with an umpire for God’s sake...SHOW SOME EMOTION.
Long and short of it....near as I can figure,he’s made about $10 million so far in his career...that buys a lot of freaking coconuts in the Dominican Republic, and he doesn’t have to lift a finger for the rest of his life....you can’t buy heart or desire to excel.

He has small market written all over him. But will a small market, say KC, Pitt or even Cleveland being willing to pay 5 mil. a season for him in arbitration years? How he figures to make that amount after this year I don't know, but that is what the geniuses at NY Post having been saying

There will be a handful of teams that think they have the coaches to fix Sanchez. And as long as he has a modicum of desire in him to get back to being a good player, they will fix him. We just have to find the right match, some team that needs a catcher, righthanded power, or DH/1B type. Some team that has top pitching prospects or outfield prospects. I have a life so I don't patrol the minor league rosters looking for potential stars, but I'm sure possible trade partners are out there.

I wish, first and foremost, that Prince Hal will gut Cashman and the entire front office and get top baseball people in here to make these decisions.
