A great Yankee statesman... but Ichiro is fading fast

O for 28.

O for last 33 plate appearances.

Last month, batting .154.

11 RBIs this season.

Batting .246.

This is sad. I would like to point out, however, the same thing I used to point out when he was with the Yankees: Ichiro can't hit right-handers anymore, yet he is continually used against them. Against lefties, he's still pretty good--but unless you look at the stats, you'd never know it.

His splits for this year point that out, yet again. Against lefties, he's batting .283, albeit with many fewer at-bats than versus righties. And the results are both expected, obvious, and as seemingly meaningless to the manager just as they were to Bullethead Joe Girardi.

Perhaps we should sign him to a 2-year contract?

John M: I guess those "metrics" aren't "advanced" enough for the New School.

Hey, if someone is going to sign him, at least they can platoon him effectively.
