Might as well post here. I was out, and following the score. I have since read the stories on what happened.

Inconceivable.

Girardi must go. Good lord. We will never ever win with this guy.

Yes--as i said on another thread, the most brutally mismanaged game I can recall. Details so obvious as to be superfluous.

Girardi simply cannot cope emotionally with a catcher who can hit. We all remember Girardi's, shall we say, strained relationship with Posada. That dynamic is on full display, with much more serious consequences, again with Sanchez. Girardi's ego is entirely wrapped up in his identity as a smart, tough, defensive catcher. He could not hit and therefore had to work five times as hard on D to stick in the bigs. He literally resents guys like Posada and Sanchez, occassionally implying that they're dumb and lazy. He ignored Sanchez...the franchise's once in a generation full spectrum catching talent...tonight because of this reservoir of resentment and the disrespect for and mistrust of Sanchez it engenders. Girardi's emotional immaturity and intellectual rigidity are responsible for not challenging that call. This lack of a challenge at a minimum contributed significantly to this one Yankees loss. But more dangerous than this one loss going forward is that Girardi has likely lost any ability to influence Sanchez. That relationship cannot be repaired, not truly. This likely extends to the rest of the clubhouse. Almost certainly to tbe pitching staff. Girardi usually gets high marks for handling his staff, but the inconsistency of this year's staff undermines that claim, as do several very curious pitching decisions last night. Girardi's time is up. A young, talented team needs a new, emotionally unencumbered, more mentally flexible, and less psychologically fragile field manager. I'd recommend Al Pedrique.

GIRARDI! GIRARDI!

GIRARDI! GIRARID!

GIRARDI! GIRARDI!

POST GAME INTERVIEW QUESTION: "JOE, WHY DIDN'T YOU WANT TO CHALLENGE THE PLAY?"

GIRARDI'S INCREDIBLE ANSWER: "I DIDN'T WANT TO BREAK THE PITCHERS RHYTHM."

WHAT RHYTHM????

GREEN WAS BEING TIMED....IT WAS EASY TO SEE!....FOUL BACK....FOUL BACK.....GREAT SWINGS AGAINST HIM.....FOUL BACK.... NEXT BATTER, SAME THING....GREAT SWING, HARD FOUL, FOUL BACK.....

WHAT RHYTHM???

AS A MATTER OF FACT, IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HELPED GREEN TO CHALLENGE THE PLAY AND GIVE HIM A BREATHER!....HE OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T HAVE HIS SAME ZIP ON THE BALL ALTHOUGH THE GUN READINGS WERE STILL GOOD.

HOW CAN I SEE IT COMING, AND NOT GIRARDI?

TOLD MY BUDDY BEFORE THE HOME RUN, "THEY ARE TIMING GREEN. HE DOESN'T HAVE IT TODAY. THIS INNING COULD MEAN THE GAME."

IT DID.

.....AND SADLY, THE SEASON.

TOTALLY DEPRESSED.

THIS CLEVELAND TEAM IS TOUGH, AND NOW HAS PEDIGREE....BUT WE HAD THEM TONIGHT.

GIRARDI.

CRUSHED.

Right on, ALL-CAPS.

This Cleveland team is, right now, ahead of us. But today was one of those seismic rips in the earth that so often turn playoffs around. Their ace, the best pitcher in the league, had nothing.

We were on the verge of going back to NY at 1-1, with Tanaka and Severino set to pitch against their 3-4 guys (or their no. 3 plus Bauer on short rest). We're golden!

And we blow it. Because Girardi won't try anything different. An extra inning for CC, who's dealing? Nope. An appearance by Warren? Nope. How about Jaime Garcia for one or two, or Montgomery, or Warren.

Nope. So why are they on the postseason roster...?

HoraceClarke66 said...

Also, I want to hear again from all these brilliant minds going on about how great Cashman's midseason deals were.

So, this postseason so far, we have Sonny Gray, with a poor, three-inning start, after his 4-7 second half for us.

Todd Frazier, with his 25 errors in the first two innings, which didn't help tonight either (after his .222 second half for us).

Jamie Garcia, who after his 0-3, 4.82 second half for us, isn't trusted even with a five-run lead.

Yeah, those were great trades, all right. How would we ever have coped without these superstars?

KEEP GOING HOSS.....

I'M TOO EXASPERATED....

GIRARDI....GIRARDI....GIRARDI....

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HE DIDN'T CHALLENGE THE FOUL TIP.

THERE WAS NOTHING TO LOSE!!!

IF GIRARDI IS THIS STUPID, HAL BETTER THINK, AND THINK FAST ABOUT GETTING HIM THE FUCK OUT OF HERE....BUT OF COURSE, HE WON'T.

Wow. I can't even.

What everyone else said.

Wow.

I am actually hoping for a huge cleveland win on sunday. 12-0 after three innings. That way I won't have to stay up too late and can wake to the news of Girardi's firing on Monday.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Dream on about the firing.

This is the flip side of the new, calmer Steinbrenner Heirs regime. To them, this season is already a complete success. Attendance way up, contending team, payroll contained.

I'm sure they're very happy with Cashman, who is never going to fire his pet manager, unless absolutely forced to do so. Don't be surprised if Girardi gets a two-year deal at the end of the season.

There is some merit to having calmer, more reflective leadership at the helm. And to be honest, even if we had seized the great opening this gave us to beat Cleveland, the chances of us getting past Houston, too, were never great.

But this was so egregiously stupid as to be galling.

Girardi cares so much about the pitcher's rhythm, my ruddy red ass!! How many times have we remarked, this past season, on Girardi's coming out & removing a pitcher who was cruising, trouble-free, for NO apparent reason?? If that is respecting a pitcher's rhythm, Merriam-Webster and I and most others are wrong, and Girardi is right. As was also pointed out in previous perceptive posts, Girardi can't tell when a pitcher is past his limit physically - - even if he PUSHED that pitcher past that limit, himself!! What a blind fool!

There are certain pitchers - - veterans, mostly - - who Girardi nearly always leaves in too long, blowing the game open - - and others, who - - no matter how they are performing, get the hook, because they don't have the number of that "inning" imprinted in Girardi's pea-sized brain. He, himself, SAID, toward the beginning of the season that he liked to establish certain innings as belonging to certain relievers in order to give them some sense of stability, and so they would know when to be mentally prepared to be used. I thought, at that time, and I KNOW now, that that was about the stupidest thing a manager could say regarding his bullpen. He was roundly criticized on this blog when he said that, and he should be summarily dismissed, NOW!! YOU SEE THAT,HAL?? CAN YOU READ CAPS?? FIRE GIRARDI!! We will never win with him again, barring your spending about a BILLION of your easily-earned, moth-eaten, dollars. Period. LB (No J)

P.S. You are right about Cash-Puss's pet manager, Horace: a few years ago, I was calling Girardi Cashman's "trained seal" on an earlier blog - - perhaps I (and we) should go back to that. We all know that he was hand-picked by Cashman, over better candidates, in 2008.

The results speak for themselves...loudly. LB (No J)
