I have never been to DR. I hear its a great place. I coached High School Baseball. A lot of coaches played overaged players that were too old to play High School ball. The coaches lied about the player's ages. This could not be checked because the officials could not find birth certificates. I am not surprised about what you wrote. Most abusers were themselves abused and grew up in abusive home. More than likely DG's father beat him, his mother, and his siblings. Whole healthy people do not abuse their loved ones no matter what. That's the point of the joint agreement. To get both the abuser and the victim the help they both need.
As for the single slap? Slaps are like snowflakes; there's always more than one. Everyone of us knows that intimate partner abuse is never an isolated event. It's a persistent, repetitive pattern of behaviour.
DG'll be a better person and hopefully pitcher after he's gotten help.
