Virtual Domingo German had little enough to throw at the Baltimore Orioles tonight. But that didn't matter much with Gleyber Torres in the virtual lineup for New York.
German was hit hard, early, and not helped by two Torres throwing errors. The Yanks trailed, 7-2, after six innings, and had Chad Green in the game, a sign of desperation in many indigenous cultures.
But a three-run homer by Torres, a two-run blast by Miguel Andujar, "El Matador," and then another three-run shot by Torres brought the Bombers around to a 10-9 win. "Cool Hand" Chapman pitched the ninth for the save.
The win drew the Yanks even with the TB Rays, and marked the 20th or 21st straight win over the O's, and the19th or 20th straight win over the Birds, or something like that.
"Frankly, they beat Baltimore so constantly, who's keeping track?" said the Elias Sports Bureau.
"The team's done nothing but hang in there like a bunch of real pros," said manager Ma Boone afterwards. "Sure, we've had injuries, but we've overcome them, and kept stepping up to the plate when the going got tough. What else would you expect from the New York Yankees?"
