Happy Birthday, Luke Voit. Here is your gift - a potential ticket out of NYC

In honor of Soup Sunday, let's keep this short.

Once the stupid lockdown ends, MLB will resemble musical chairs during a power cut. Here's one simple, uncomplicated deal that can happen at the speed of love.

Luke Voit to Phily for Sir Didi Gregorius.

Straight up. No prospects. No players to be maimed later. No fine print. Done on a cocktail napkin. Announced on a tweet. A night move... Out past the cornfields where the woods get heavy, out in the back seat of Hal's '60 Chevy...

Why it works:

1. Both players can use a fresh start in a new city.

2. Didi bats LH, which the Yankees need.

3. Luke hits RH, which the Phillies need.

4. Both are 31. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUKE!)

5. Both are coming off pitiful years, due to injuries. Didi hit 13 HRs and - ugh - .209. Luke hit 11 HR and batted - yeuch - .239.

6. The Yanks need a stopgap defensive SS. The Phillies need a DH.

7. Didi's entering his contract year. Luke is arbitration-eligible.

8. We know Didi loves NYC. Luke looks perfect for Philly.

9. Either Didi has a comeback season, or he gets replaced by a prospect. And if Luke bombs in Philly, there's always another DH.

You could argue that Philadelphia should toss in some coins - Didi makes $15 million, Luke only $4.7 million - but, hey, we're talking clam dip money. Look around. Will the Yankees get more for Luke? Will the Phils  find a more interested taker for Didi? I doubt it.

Once the lockout ends, BOOM .

So, Luke, what else did you get? Air fryer?

The trade makes sense to me.

This is a great idea, Duque. Even an older, diminished Didi might help this weird, semi-engaged team and provide a little fun.

What the hell, it's not like we're going to win anything, anyway. Might as well have a good time.

A really great trade that will never happen...

the ELEPHANT in the room, of course, in that trade is to also swap the two SKIPPERS, straight up, at the same time. make it SEW

I guess, but Didi hasn’t been great on defense either. He really looks done. They would probably be better off trading Voit to Texas for isiah Kiner Falefa

Still don't get it.

Yanks need a shortstop—after it took them four years to discover that their shortstop of the future, the man whom they were planning the team of the future around...can't play the position.

But wait! It's raining' shortstops! This is The Year of the Free Agent Shortstop.

Only...the Yanks don't want any of them. Nope. They got shortstops a-plenty in the minors (All of a sudden. And not above Double-A ball. But still!)

Okay, so they have a couple of handy, temporary shortstop types on board. Play them until—no, wait, they got rid of them. For nothing.

So now the "plan" is to trade the first baseman for the old shortstop, who can't hit anymore, and HEY LADY!

El Duque:
Time to say goodbye to Luke. Although he has not been the worst, Luke's game leaves a lot to be desired. How about sending Mike Fishman and Genius Cashman along with him.
