Let's Keep The One-Game Play-in Celebration Modest

It was a big win.

A win with drama and emphasis.

Where everything worked, and everyone contributed.

But stow the champagne.  Just use the small party hats.

It is only one game.

Now the battle of Trafalgar begins.

I'll keep this in mind if I ever recover from my hangover.

Ma Boone expects that every man will do his duty.

This is a team that has fucked up royally. We may do well. We may sweep the scum-sucking, felch-residue, semen-crusted, shit stains from the face of the earth.

We may also get our asses handed to us.

Until this team can lock down something that they NEED to lock down - and I'm not talking about a one-game playoff against Oakland - then we cannot celebrate.

We need to reload and get ready for the next barrage. Those fuckers treat every game against us like D-Day. We need to do the same. Let's see how good Boone is at motivating them now.

I DID LIKE HOW WE DIDN'T GO NUTS ON THE FIELD AFTER WE WON.

JUST HANDSHAKES AND HAND SLAPS.

SMART.

TIME TO GO TO WORK.

confidence level? I'm at a 7/10. everything felt good last night*. wife went to bed early but came back down once she heard the hoot'n and holler'n. what really got to her was when I jumped up from the sofa, crouched down, flung out my arms while yelling at the top of my lungs "SAFE SAFE SAFE YOU FUCKERS! HE WAS SAFE!!!!!" too bad I didn't think to put pants on my head.

*Only Boone caused me concern. I really think we lucked out when he brought Sevy out for the 5th. it miraculously worked out somehow but I did not think it a wise move.

No idea what the "Battle of Trafalgar" reference means. I only know of that word because it's on a Bee Gees Album. I thought it was a mythological place like Camelot or Atlantis and they were doing an art rock concept LP about it. I'll have to actually listen to it someday.

ICS should be benched.

TheWinWarblist said...

Do you mean we should go with Big Ro?

TheWinWarblist said...

Actually, it's Little Ro.

ICS is not an asset in any way. Little Ro will play his heart out and he's better behind the plate.

Did I say "scrotum?" I need to say that at least once a day until the season is over. Next year, it'll be a new word. Maybe something completely different, like "ballsack" or "nutbag" or "testicle container."

Vampifella.....Trafalgar was one of the most critical sea battles of all time.

Kind of like the Yankees and the Red Sox, starting Friday. Two heavily armed navies. Where nationhood is at stake.

The fact that it was part of the Napoleonic Wars means that I was there and you weren't born yet.

But, if studied artfully, it foretells what the outcome of the Yanks/Red Sox series will be.

Those who forget the tides of history, are doomed to repeat them.

I'm trying to NOT be optimistic. The closer I look at our pitching, the more I am nervous about playing the Red Sux.

However:

If any Yankees team ever went into Fenway ready to demolish the wall, it is a team with Stanton, Judge, and Voit. And Miggy. And Gleyber.

Suddenly, it's a team of RH power hitters.

For me, if there's a hope -- this will fill the bill.

As for Trafalgar: Wikipedia has a read on it -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Trafalgar

....from that -- 27 British ships vs. 33 "enemy" in 1805 -- and.....

"The Franco-Spanish fleet lost twenty-two ships and the British lost none."

TheWinWarblist said...

As bad as that sounds, it was actually much worse. The French and Spanish fleet suffered over 13,000 casualties.
Also only one of their ships was sunk. The other 21 were captured by the British. A more correct assessment would be, "The Franco-Spanish fleet lost twenty-two ships, and the British lost none of their own and gained 21 of their enemies."

Of course, Nelson, the victorious admiral for the British, died shortly before the battle ended. What does it all mean, I wonder?

It means he got a statue in Trafalgar square that you can barely see because it's so far off the ground. You will see a lot of double-decker tourist buses there though.

There's a nice pub on Trafalgar Square where you can drink a pint of Guinness or 'alf 'n' 'alf and watch the pigeons. Used to be, you could watch the girls in their mini skirts.

I just saw this...

"Blue Jays have list of interviewees to replace John Gibbons
Eric Wedge, John McDonald, Stubby Clapp and Sandy Alomar Jr. are on the Blue Jays radar"

Stubby Clapp? Wow. You can't make that up. Shouldn't he be managing our Tampa team?

Stubby Clapp sounds like a porn actor who'd been run out of the business...
