This year, it was $193 million.
That is an extra $33 million, which came from payroll and now lines Hal Steinbrenner's pockets.

we will learn a lot about Hal's NYY during this Hot Stove. in short, we'll learn if we should continue to support this franchise with our hard-earned dollars...
He is not a fan. It's ALL about the money. Turns out, that's a really important metric to how a team does. A fan will go the extra mile, make sacrifices, do what it takes. A FAN WANTS TO WIN.
My guess - only a guess - is that Hal absolutely HATES the Yankees, but he knows where his bread is buttered, so he just sucks it up and does what he has to do.
We're doomed until he sells the team.

I can fully understand Hal not loving the Yankees. I just wish he would sell it off to someone—NOT the Dolans—and be done with it.
Instead, he'll keep it as his cash cow. But I guess that's his revenge on dad, too: "Hey, Dad, look at how I'm milking your sucky team!"
