We can now inflict a lifetime hurt upon our friends in Boston

All season, they've worn that big, fat, self-pleasuring mask of smuggery.

"Best record in baseball." "Most wins in Boston history." "Best team ever."

The 2018 Redsock Hall of Fame Superteam of Destiny. (TM)

Now, we have the chance to permanently plug their pie-holes, to zip-lock their lip-pocks, to clamp their tater-craters, to stick the hairy pickle into their blather-tunnels... to shut them the fuck up, once and forever. We can turn their 2018 luxury Caribbean cruise into a listing, sewage-plugged, flu-infected, hell voyage to Timbuktu and - with a little follow-through - launch a new Yankee dynasty before this whole country falls apart like an M. Night Shymalan movie.

If we can win the next series, we'll likely get a rematch with Houston, for whom we have a score to settle. Then it's the NL where - oh, who gives a crap, are the Dodgers still a thing? Then comes a winter unfettered with luxury tax limits, with Manny Machado and Bryce Harper waiting for our calls... and next season, with Justus Sheffield in the rotation and Clint Frazier in a motorcycle helmet. Next year, with Trump declawed by a Democratic Congress, with Taylor Swift patching things up with whomever she's at war with, with Sebastian Gorka on Dancing With the Stars, with Brian Cashman fitted for his bronze plaque, with John and Suzyn laughing into the sunset and it's free candy for all good boys and girls! Next year, everything will be perfect! If we win the next series.

All season, we dreaded last night. Now, we get another game. And it's Boston's turn to squirm.

All we need is a little three game winning streak. Any team can do that. And the Yankees don't look like just any team anymore.

So endeth the JuJu.

Theeeeeee Yaaaaaaankkkkeeeeees win!

I honestly didn't believe it would happen even after the Judge HR, I kept expecting a 8 run retaliation. I do question some of the pitching choices. mostly leaving Severino in for another inning when he was showing lots of trouble and we all expected Britton to blow the game, but the hitting came though on this one. Loved that Stanton HR, I think it's still going in orbit.

Now I'm wondering, is the Red Sox team the same team which we kicked the asses of last month? I was really amazed we won those games and I'm assuming they were playing half assed to be well rested for this series.

I'd love another chance at Houston as they are weaker than last year and very beatable. The Indians still has no chance in heck and I'd be surprised if they'd even win a game.

And I feel the same way, who cares about the NL. There were at least 10 teams that was in contention until the last month and they are all pretty much like the Indians. Was a little surprised the Cubs lost though, as I've seen a lot of people saying a Cubs/Dodgers showdown for the WS. Man it would really suck to make it to the WS and then get beat by either the Brewers or the Rockies. If the game is fixed, then expect Dodgers v. Yanks for the WS and massive ratings.

Vampifella, I'm wondering the same thing. But I'm also wondering if it's the same team that swept us in four crippling games in early August.

I'm really hoping last night's win has hyper-oxygenated the pinstripes' blood and that we'll come out with some serious 'tude.

In case there's any doubt, I also was slightly disappointed at the sight of Voit standing and admiring his triple last night. I.e., Run, you big, dumb misshapen m'f'er, run.

We now return you to your regular programming.

At this point, I feel like the Yankees are playing with house money. I'll be happy if the series with Boston is competitive ( sooooo trying to temper my expectations). But but BUT, if they take the Sux series, it will be one of the sweetest FU moments imaginable, BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

we've nothing to lose. it's the 2018 redsock Hall of Fame Superteam of Destiny (TM) that is now under pressure. if we lose to them, well… they are the Superteam of Destiny. OF COURSE we lost. what did anyone expect? but if we beat them? Redsockian disaster of the highest order. They will be despondent, perhaps suicidal. they might even do something stupid during the Hot Stove that blows that team up. I don't really expect to see David Price swinging from a yardarm on Old Ironsides but a boy can dream, can't he?

The Boston team that swept the four game series was playing against a Triple-A Yankees roster. Last night Gleyber was hitting ninth because we had everyone back in the lineup. Those Yankees aren't these Yankees.

I think we should all STFU, as they say "online." That means, for those of you uninitiated in the ways of endless online bullshit, "shut the fuck up."

I think we should lay low in the weeds and take it one game at a time. I don't think we can or ought to be beating our chests after one win.

We should put on the war paint, kneel behind the rocks and keep a close eye on the passes. Our time will come, but it's not here yet. The gods have ears.

When they played the townie assholes, Gleyber Torres was in the middle of 4 for 35 coming off the DL. Judge was on the DL. Voit had not had his first base hit as a Yankee. Chance Adams started one game and Shane Robinson started two games.

None of those statements are true for this series.

And don't forget Chris Sale's career postseason record (ok it's all last year) of 0-2 with ERA north of 8.

And this "Boston starters have never won a postseason start. Boston starters have never won a postseason start."

And this: David Price will start one of the games.

Even the townie fans are scared:

Shake that angry tiny fist at the Firmament. Shake it, 13bit. But enjoy last night. Don't let the Scold in your heart (or cold) spoil last night. Chests are meant to be beaten.

Chests are also meant for VaporRub. How are you feeling?

LBJ - Couldn't agree more on Voit. RUN! I suspect he's the kind of player who will take that lesson to heart.

KoB - I was watching a replay of the catch this AM. It was like he caught a cannon ball. Amazing! It's too bad there weren't more reaction shots from the other players. That could be the best Yankee 3B stop since Nettles vs. LA.

Rufus - Yes, we're better than the team that Boston swept. I'm kinda glad that Gleybar and AnDUjar didn't really factor in yesterday's game. That means their contributions are still to come. And they will come.

13bit - Yes, big fan of the no hubris. One game at a time. Lay low. Play the game in front of you. Boston has a great team. We can only hope they peaked too soon.

KD - I like the logic. Nothing to lose.

Last thoughts:

1) I really like Aaron Judge. He's like Jeter without being as calculating.

2) Looking forward to Cutch, AnDUjar, Gleybar, Sanchez stepping up and having big moments

3) I was really glad for Stanton last night. After a lifetime of playing in front of small indifferent crowds he got to play in a game commensurate with his talent and came up big. That's a happy story.

I agree on Voit stylin'.

I like the guy, but better be sure it's out before admiring. Probably could have been an inside the parker, but could also have resulted in CPR being required at home plate.
