It's a good day to read a comic book

Just a reminder that Mustang and I have launched a comic book company, AHOY Comics. We have two books on the market - on sale in comic book shops across the country - so... GO!

We've been getting rave reviews. Consider these from the comic book press:

“There’s a hot new (independent) upstart in town and it’s bringing a
fresh take to the comic book issue: the comic book magazine. AHOY Comics, founded by Hart Seely (a journalist for the Syracuse Post-Standard and humorist for places as prestigious as the New Yorker) will have a few familiar faces helming its grand experiment.”—SYFY WIRE

“Just when you thought the comics publishing landscape was fully
saturated, another player is coming to the table banking on a new format, twisted humor and blue-chip pedigree to reach readers looking for a different spin on familiar comics tropes and genres.”—FORBES

“AHOY Comics is being founded on the idea that there's something unique about the reading experience that isn't available in other media.”—NEWSARAMA

“Those of you saying we need more bang for your buck, look no further.
Ahoy there.”—COMICS BEAT

"In many respects, AHOY is comics by way of the New Yorker .....There’s fertile ground here for new voices, new stories, new stuff." WMQ Comics
AHOY Comics “boasts a lineup of top creators and feature cartoons, prose and poetry.”—THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

THE WRONG EARTH

“An overstuffed comic that makes good on the original promise of AHOY Comics to deliver more, and more diverse content for your buck.” — COMICON

“Interesting.” — io9, This Week’s Best New Comics

Fun take on the classic and modern superhero.” — GRAPHIC POLICY

“I just want you to know that I’ve loved Tom Peyer’s genius brain for thirty years and THE WRONG EARTH is just pure, undiluted Tom Peyer as it exists in its most natural form. If you love superheroes, you NEED this. If you HATE superheroes, this will change your mind.” Mark Millar

Peyer and Igle knock this one out of the park.” — ADVENTURES IN POOR TASTE

“Exciting…a fun parody of the floppy costume heroes of the Golden Age of Comic heroes and the gritty reboot era comics of the 2000’s” — EVERYTHING ACTION

"This is a lot of quality entertainment packed into a single issue. If it sets the standard for future issues, it’s a steal given the cover price." — DOOM ROCKET

“A lot of bang for your buck.” — 411 MANIA

Beautifully rendered by Jamal Igle, whose credits include Supergirl and Firestorm. Andy Troy’s colors move you between the brightness of Earth-Alpha to the perpetual night of Earth-Omega.” — BAM! SMACK! POW!

“Peyer’s writing embraces classic superhero storytelling really beautifully while also parodying it and it makes for a hell of a comic book reading experience. Jamal Igle, the artist for the series, flawlessly compliments Peyer’s vintage styled writing with his gorgeous artwork that is both extraordinary and classic. — COMICS THE GATHERING
I haven’t felt this excited about a new series in a long time. While this showcases new and old storytelling ideas there is still something about it
that promises hope which is something that has been missing far too long. This is a combination of amazing storytellers and an amazing story concept coming together to bring us to a place where we can have fun and find joy in comics again. — READING WITH A FLIGHT RING

HIGH HEAVEN
“More of a magazine than a comic book, High Heaven #1 offers a full comic story by Tom Peyer and Greg Scott, a cartoon from renowned American cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, a short comic by Tom Peyer and Chris Giarrusso as well as a prose story from famed Scottish comics writer Grant Morrison… What’s great about this issue is that after the 24 page story there’s still another half of the issue left. AHOY delivers content. The issue is worth picking up for the main story alone, but each extra adds tremendously.. Fantastic.— ADVENTURES IN POOR TASTE

“A well rounded book with strips that will make you think as well as make you laugh.” — COMICON

“A very biting take on the concept of eternal happiness.” — OMNI COMICS

“Hilarious dark satire…. The art by Greg Scott is wonderfully
detailed and expressive.”  — IMPULSE GAMER

Back to baseball for a moment: I was thinking it would be a tragedy if Neil Walker ends up playing (or, heaven forfend, starting) in the wild card game.

Then I thought: You don't know shit (I really don't).

So I checked the numbers on MLB.com for Neil.

BA/OBP in August: .214/.309 (94 plate appearances)
In September: .188/.314 (50 plate appearances)

Season vs LHP: .164/.244
Vs RHP: .234/.326

Home Runs -- 1 vs LHP, 10 vs RHP (in 309 plate appearances)

Checked Bird's #s too, they are awfuller. Bird hit better against LHP than he did against RHP, which maybe shouldn't be a surprise. Also, Bird's August saw him hit .122 and come in under .200 on OBP

....so thank heaven for Voit!!!

It's always a good day to read a comic book, although I just finished Provenance by Ann Leckie.

How are you feeling 13bit? Have your wee delicate sinuses cleared or are they still disgorging purulent goo?

IF WE DON'T WIN WEDNESDAY, FOR SURE, IT'S GONNA BE "THE WRONG EARTH".

Where is Hoss now that we need him most ...

Thanks, JFB, for the Walker stats. I used them on the Twitter.

I guess if Sevvy is our starter because he's the "ace," Walker will be in the lineup because he's a "professional hitter."

Hoss is in Portugal, isn't he? Yes, my baby sinuses are doing better, thank you. Nothing like waking up in a pool of sweat and knowing my immune system is still working.

Blue sky at dawning, sailor take warning,
Sevy to start, life's a wet fart.

Ah yes. The Shart of Legend.

Mr. and Mrs. Calabash are (reportedly) in Portugal.

Wet farts are ok as long as no one notices.

Sports report tonight on St. Botolph's town evening news assumes the small market sawx will be cowering against the Yankees.

A very good sign.

Now just beat the f'n Athletics.

P.S., do you think Jeter is still happy with trading away Yelich?

So, if a Sox fan is alone in the woods and shits his pants, it’s okay?
