There are 74 hitters with more home runs than the Yankee team leader

Carlos Beltran has 22.

He's 11 behind Robinson Cano.

For whatever it's worth...

Our current RBI leader, Starlin Castro, ranks 84th on the MLB list.

At 69 RBIs, he's one ahead of Yangervis Solarte, three above Eduardo Nunez, and eight ahead of Adonis Garcia. He's 21 RBIs below Robbie, seven behind Melky Cabrera, and four behind Russell Martin.

Our top batter, hitting .278, is Didi Gregorius. He ranks 61st in MLB.

Our top base-stealer, Jacoby Ellsbury, with 18, ranks 27th.

Brett Gardner leads the Yankees in pitches per plate appearance, with an average of 4.08. He ranks 31st in baseball.

What are you trying to say here?

Btw, it's a good thing we drew the line at giving Cano that big contract so we could give it to Ellsbury. Man, we dodged a bullet with that one. We mighta been contending without bringing up the kids, and who knows what would've happened. We could have won something or other, and that woulda been terrible.

Other numbers:

GAMEL for Seattle -- 36 at-bats, 6 hits .....OPS = .563

M. WILLIAMS for NYY -- 18 at-bats, 7 hits .....OPS = .833

Is it possible we kept the right guy?

Why oh why do we keep Cashman, who is a complete incompetent??? Let's designate for assignment Cashman, Girardi and Michael Kay...PLEASE

I'm glad Chase Headley is in the lineup tonight, even if he did just kill a rally. We gotta give that guy all the at-bats we can so we can see what he can do. If you go by small sample sizes, you might be tempted to say that Headley hasn't done much in the three years since the Yankees picked him up. But the Yankees, I hear, are heavy into analytics, and they know how to spot talent and find value. Fortunately, Headley is signed for another two exciting years, which means we-ve got another 1,000+/- at bats to tap into his value and recognize his talent. Oh, boy!

Can't argue with that.

Tanaka has a flexor problem. Missing at least one start. Great.

On the bright side, I think we have to be excited for 2017 and the season our centerfielder is going to put together. He's run into a slight rough patch this year, but we all know he can't be that bad for the next several years of his contract. Good times!

WELL, JOE GIRARDI BASICALLY ENDED OUR SEASON TONIGHT BY PUTTING AARON HICKS, AND DONOVAN SOLANO, (TO GO ALONG WITH CHASE HEADLEY), IN THE STARTING LINEUP AGAINST A TOUGH YOUNG PITCHER TONIGHT...I SAW THE LINEUP BEFORE THE GAME AND SAID "UH O"......THIS GUY SNELL IS PRETTY TOUGH AND HAS GOOD STUFF........YOU CAN'T HAVE 3 "OUTS" IN THE LINEUP LIKE WE HAD TONIGHT......... SKEPTICS WILL SAY, "WHO WOULD YOU PLAY INSTEAD?"...... YOU PLAY ANY 2 MAN COMBINATION OF TYLER AUSTIN, RONALD TORREYES, OR ROB REFSNYDER .....ALL 3 OF THEM HAVE HAD SOME PRETTY BIG MOMENTS FOR US THIS SEASON, AND ALTHOUGH AUSTIN AND REF WERE COLD AS ICE RECENTLY, THEY HAD BOTH BEEN BENCHED AND ARE NOW RESTED, AND I BELIEVE WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER CHOICE.......ALL I KNOW IS WHEN I SAW TONIGHT'S STARTING LINEUP, MY MIND FLASHED, "NO RUNS TONIGHT."....... WE GOT NO RUNS TONIGHT.....WHY CAN'T GIRARDI GET THE SAME "FLASHES" THAT I DO ?????????

The good news is we still have a chance for a sub .500 record!

Thanks Hal and Joe!

This is the most distressing stat of all. The Yankees used to grind you down with pitch counts, get into your bullpen early and feast. It seems like such an obvious strategy for success in baseball, and guess what, a lot of teams have copied it -- except the Yankees.

The problem is probably lack of talent. If pitchers are unafraid of what you can do, they don't have to nibble, and you wind up with a Chase Headley special: a timid fly ball to one of the outfielders and another grim trot back to the dugout.
