Hmmm. Based on the van that he lives in, should we be worried about Alphonso?

Today, I'm thinking about the van where Alphonso lives, as he roams the country spreading his message of love. It's hard to miss, usually parked outside a methadone clinic, gentleman's club or bail bondsman. Here's his side window.

Come to think of it, I never did learn why he was looking for Dustin Pedroia's home address. Oh well...

My only regret from last night is that I didn't last long enough to see the tears rolling down Boston's collective cheek after the entire city practically stayed up until dawn to watch its team lose in 18 innings.

In case you missed - of course, you missed it! it ran 18 frickin' innings - both teams blew out their bullpens, but the Redsocks burned a virtual 6-inning outing from Nathan Eovaldi, their game 4 starter. It's hard to say which pitching staff suffered more damage, but imagine the juju gods pressing the RESET button on the 2018 series, and that's what you've got. The Redsocks' strategy just flew out the window.

Dare we hope that posters of 2018 Redsock Hall of Fame Superteam of Destiny (TM) could turn out to be a new, hurtful sticker on Alphonso's back windshield?

Answer: I never worry about Fonzie. He seems to have his head screwed on for permanent attachment.

Note: 106 Yankees prospects, their 2018 seasons in review:

I watched the entire game. One of the many advantages of living in CA. Here's another one, no snow. When I lived in the desert my NY friends would ask me how I can stand it and I would say, "Hey, you don't shovel heat."

But to the game...

1) I mentioned earlier that Dodgers are very much like the Yankees. Last night they scored three times two solo home runs and walks and errors. Not a double or a rally in sight. Sound familiar. Doesn't bode well though.

2) I always knew that I hated the Red Sox (Although not to van point - actually Van Point sounds like an upscale trailer park for people forced to live in their vans.

Anyway, I always knew I hated the Red Sox but when Bellinger threw Kinsler out at the plate I leapt out of my chair and yelled, "Yes! Take that motherfuckers!" It was as if Aaron Judge did it.

3) Machado - I would write something more but as soon as I wrote his name my head started shaking part in confusion, part in disbelief, part in acknowledgement of just of amazing it is to watch his sage in real time. Get him. Don't get him. Get him. Don't get him. He's great. He's a slacker. We need him anyway. No no we don't. I have no clue. In a game of stories this one leaves me... well shaking my head.

4) Speaking of stories... Eovaldi. I'm glad the Red Sox lost but that was an effort for all time. Especially given his arm issues. Say what you want but that guy has the heart of a lion. He was nothing short of fantastic. Doesn't mean sign him. For all we know his arm literally fell off driving home from the ball park but that was a performance for the ages.

5) Nunez. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Wow. There are football players who hit the ground less in the course of a game. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

6) Betts - Tough series for a great player. Couldn't happen at a better time. He'll break out eventually.

Last) I still think Boston will win but it's nice to see them lose and maybe have some doubts creep in. Or, as one sage put it, "Take that Motherfuckers!" Oh wait, that was me, but it's still true.

Thanks, Joe FOB, and very interesting.

By my rough count, of those 106 prospects, 36 went forward this year, and 13 were in their first year in pro ball. The other 57 went backward.

Even among those who progressed, there are a large number who are fast aging out of prospect time. I think the Yanks must have the oldest farm system going; I've never seen so many 25-26-year-old guys in the minors. And of the 13 newbies, most performed terribly.

Most notably, the Yankees' great, draft pick 1-2 catching prospects, hit 1 HR between them, and were generally poor to terrible. (We're not going to be able to wait out ICS.)

The Yankees' Latin prospects seemed particularly terrible, especially the international, free-agent signings. And injuries devastated the entire system, especially—but far from exclusively— the pitchers. Player after player suffered season-ending injuries that kept them out for months.

Clearly, the minor-league trainers should be fired, along with the Latin scouts. Really, this entire system took a massive step backwards last year, and there is little prospect of it reviving any time soon.

Also, we have not one but two prospects with the last name, "German."

And I agree with Doug K.: It is nice to see Boston at least lose one.

NUNEY WAS HILARIOUS.

FALLING ALL OVER THE PLACE.

HIS JETER IMITATION WAS PRICELESS FALLING INTO THE STANDS.

NOTICING HOW MANNY MACHADO IS FAILING HIS YANKEE AUDITION?

HE KEEPS COMING UP IN CLUTCH SITUATIONS, AND KEEPS SWINGING AT PITCHES OUT OF THE STRIKE ZONE, AND REALLY HASN'T DELIVERED, (EXCEPT FOR THE OFF THE WALL SINGLE HE DIDN'T RUN ON).

OH, THAT'S RIGHT...IF YOU DON'T HIT IN THE CLUTCH, SWING FOR THE FENCES, AND WAIL AT PITCHES OUT OF THE ZONE, COOP CASHMAN WILL DESPERATELY WANT YOU...I FORGOT.

I had no idea that clinics in southern California put limits on the number of methadone visits one is allowed, per week.

I went to sleep miserable and only regained my natural, ebullient glow when I saw Duque's post.

18 innings can change things.

There is always a chance.

It is baseball.

Sometimes the better team loses, because they are assholes from an asshole City.

This is stochastic terrorism. Pure and simple. I was at the '95 Leytriz game at The Stadium. 15 innings was torment. I can't imagine how much worse 18 innings were.
