If Aaron Boone is Bored, He Ought to Do Something Else

So Yanks just lost a runner and maybe a run when The Gleyber was called out for not touching 2B again when he ran back to first after the General's line drive was caught.

Only the thing is, the replay wasn't at all clear that he did NOT touch the base.

It's the sort of play where the player may not even know whether or not he touched the bag.

But the manager should know.  Or he should find out.

Ma Boone needed to at least slow the game down until someone could see a replay.  But there was nothing.  No stalling, no arguing.  No calling out the umps, or talking to Gleyber.

Just like it never happened.

I guess that would've meant having to actually walk out on the field.

If that's too much to expect, he ought to go back to commentating.

And I second this.

The sloppiness of this team is evident every day, in every way.

Sancho picked off AGAIN, this time by the same Orioles catcher who managed to put Andujar out for the year?

Yet another bases loaded, nobody out rally that ended up with the Yankees not scoring.

WTF was Phil Nevin doing?

WTF was Boone doing? (He could easily have at least tried arguing interference on the play, in which the Orioles 3B all but wrestled Sancho off the bag.)

What was Sanchez thinking about?

The sloppiness is totally out of hand. Guys paying no attention on the bases, swinging at anything, playing crappy ball in the field—how about hat Happ "toss" toward an empty 1B tonight?

Apart from how badly this team is designed, nobody is directing it.

And while the Mets beat up on Corbin a little bit today—3 runs in 6 innings—he turned in a start that would have made him the ace of our rotation.

By contrast, more crap from Happ.

And now, once again, even with the 8-man bullpen, we have Jonathan Holder in a second inning of work. Why?

And Holder pitches into a third inning.

Is there anyone else out there stuck with MLB.TV who is getting a green stripe on the left side of the screen?

After my brain and hip broke down, my computer, printer, and modem all followed.

I spent 48 hours on my hands and knees on the floor underneath my desk last week until I got all of the wireless stuff speaking to each other. It is (mostly) successful.

The first game I watched on the new piece of shit plastic computer I got talked into buying was the second game of the season.

Every now and then, a green bar would appear toward the left side of the screen taking up about 20% of the screen. It would flicker and sometimes stay for 20 or 30 seconds. A few games it wasn’t there. Tonight it s is almost constantly there.

So! Is it (1) MLB.TV, or (2) my new computer, or (3) my internet service provider (and possibly the modem), or (4) is someone tossing bad juju in my direction?

Any suggestions? Please tell me it is NOT MLB as I had to phone them last week and spoke to a total idiot to try to find out why I could not activate my account (the call cost me upward of $30).

While I’m here, a tip of the hat to Gardy, without whose double we’d be tied right now.

Oh and yeah: Aaron Boone is an asshole. Maybe he should sell shitty computers instead.

Almost a clinic in bad managing.

Holder hits the first batter on a 2-2 pitch—wildness often a sign that a pitcher is losing it.

He stays in.

He gives up a single to the next hitter.

Now Ma decides to pull him.

Incredible.

We are being outsmarted in every aspect of the game Alex Cora must be licking his lips.

HoraceClarke66 said...

And...Ottavino gets a routine roundball to first, a possible double-play.

Which Bird bobbles, giving up the tying run.

Ball might have been foul, and the runner from third might have missed the plate.

But again, not even a question from Boone.

And now Torres drops a routine pop fly. Which doesn't matter because of the infield fly rule.

But this is a circus. This team has no life and no pride. And the manager doesn't even realize there's a problem.

HoraceClarke66 said...

And now the Orioles' lead runner steals third. He would've been out on the replay, but our new, crack third baseman doesn't keep the tag on him.

And he scores on a long fly.

You've heard of Billyball. You've heard of Moneyball. What the Yanks play is called Chumpball.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Trust me, Austria: you don't want to see this game.

Pocono Steve said...

Well, that I did not expect.

JM said...

Red crushed it. Two out, two on, two and two.

But in keeping with the sloppiness, Torres doesn't score on a wild pitch and, worse, DJ stayed rooted at first. Wtf? Terrible baserunning. Frazier really bailed them out.

Austria's Only Baseball Fan said...

Well THAT was, uh... dare I say remarkable?

My question, and I thought of it at the beginning of the game, so it's not a second-guess: Why did he start Tauchman instead of Frazier? Clint needs REPS, and Tauchman is a nonentity. WTF? I also think that Wade should be getting most of the starts at second--at least use this injury-plagued interval to let these guys develop and show what they can do.

Thank you, Hal. We're so lucky to have you as emperor.

THIS TEAM IS UNDISCIPLINED!

SANCHO'S HEAD IS IN ANOTHER WORLD, GLEYBER DROPS AN EASY POP (ON AN INFIELD FLY RULE), BIRD BOBBLES THE BALL AND THROWS HOME LATE....AND OUR BASE RUNNING IS ATROCIOUS!

WILL BOONE EVEN BRING ANY OF THIS SHIT UP TO THESE PLAYERS?

NOPE, DOUBT IT.

....AND HOW THE HELL COULD HE LEAVE HOLDER IN FOR A 3RD INNING????????

I WILL SAY THIS AGAIN. $45 MILLION FOR BRITTON. $30 MILLION FOR OTTAVINO. KAHNLE IS EVEN LOOKING GOOD.....SO, WHY THE FUCK IS HOLDER IN FOR A 3RD INNING LATE IN THE GAME?????????

I SAID IMMEDIATELY, "HERE IS WHERE WE LOSE THIS GAME."

....AND WE WOULD HAVE IF IT WASN'T FOR CLINT (BLESS HIS SOUL).

WHAT A FUCKING ROLLERCOASTER.

I'm back to my daily mantra.... fuck boone

CLINT FRAZIER IS A CLUTCH WINNING BALLPLAYER.

HE HAS ALREADY WON 3 GAMES IN HIS SHORT MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER, WITH CLUTCH HOMERS- (NOT SOLO JOBS EITHER).

THAT IS MORE THAN STANTON HAS DONE, IN A FRACTION OF THE TIME.

PLEASE LET THIS KID STAY HEALTHY.

ASK ANY DIE HARD YANKEE FAN THAT WATCHES EVERY DAY, WHO WOULD THEY RATHER SEE UP AT THE PLATE WITH RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION AND 2 OUTS? GIANCARLO STANTON OR CLINT FRAZIER?

THE ANSWER IS EASY.

IT'S CLINT.

....AND THE SPORTS MEDIA GAMMONITES WOULD LAUGH AT US.

HoraceClarke66 said...

As they say, I'd rather be lucky than good. But boy, was that ever lucky!

The reason Holder pitched into a third inning, my brethren? Because the Yanks are pitching an "opener" today.

That's right. The storied New York Yankees can't "afford" another starter, even though there's at least one, Dallas Kuchel, just waiting to be signed.

That's where we're at, with poor Zieg Hal. We can't really put out the best team even against these wretched Birds, because Hal doesn't want to pay for it.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Hilariously, the YES headline is, "Yankees Take Down Orioles on the Road"—as if beating the Birds at home is a great accomplishment.

And the subheadline is, "Clint Frazier hit one in the eighth inning to seal the victory for New York"...as if, you know, we were ahead 5-1 or something, and that just wrapped it up.

Oy.

You know, when you lie to yourself all the time, you eventually start lying to everyone.

Saw some of the postgame press conference with Ma. My goodness, these guys are pathetic in how they ask these questions.

"Um, this is the second game in a row where Sanchez has been picked off first. Is this becoming an issue?"

Oh, how I love the passive cowardice of this!

How about this, Knights of the Press Box:

"Hey, that team out there seemed to have no ability to concentrate or remember any of the fundamentals. Shouldn't that reflect on you, the manager? Why is it you can't get these guys' attentions, Skip? Don't they respect you?"

Oh, I know, I know, all of those time-servers would rather jump from the top of Yankee Stadium III than ask anything so disturbing.

But this was a pathetic outing, and one that should embarrass all involved.

HoraceClarke66 said...

Also, an amazing interview with Crapp, who I rather liked last year, but is just beginning to annoy the hell out of me this year.

Again, with the kid gloves. 'Oh, were you upset when he pulled you so early?'

How about:

"Hey, you're playing on a level above junior high. What was with that toss from your glove toward a vacated first base? What the hell were you thinking?"

"Geez, you're complaining that they got cheap hits and walks. But you're facing what's basically a Double-A squad. How can you NOT get these guys out when you need to? Won't a real team like Boston eat you alive the way they did in the ALDS last year?"

"Why are you wearing a grey striped sweater? Have you joined a French mime troupe? Holy shit, man, what's wrong with you? Why don't you put on a jacket like a normal human being?"

But that's just me.

Mediasavvy said...

Agreed. Fundamentals are non-existent. No small ball game, when the home runs don't come (and they haven't). Molly-coddling young players has not helped their development at all. In-game decision-making remains as dubious as ever. He looks clueless out there.

And someone needs to clear the tunnel of data analysts. That's just offensive. If their shouted advice were any good, it would show up in Boone's pitching and other in-game decisions. Clearly, their advice ain't that good.

The weakest part of this team is its management and coaching. I miss Girardi.
